jack white and curt cobain do not deserve to be on that list. ive never liked nirvana's music and i dont see whats so special about it. if it was revolutionary...what a shitty revolution. but if cobain and white are on that list, then dave def should be. they were just popular guitar players, and imo dave is more talented than they were/are. also, maybe im the only one, but i think jimmy page is better than clapton. perhaps thats just because i like zeps music better than claptons, but i prefer him. but then again, odds are zeppelin never would have been a band if it werent for clapton.

Jack White and Curt Cobain were fantastic, fantastic songwriters, and I think the ability to write a song has something to do with that list, much more than the ability to solo. Soloing is a lot easier than songwriting. I'd say that at least Cobain deserves to be on that list, if for that reason only, albeit very far down on the list. He was innovative, in the least.
Just like at Jimi Hendrix- his solos aren't the hardest things in the world to play, but he was doing stuff that hadn't been heard before at the time. He was creative, fresh, and new, and very, very good at what he was doing. So was Curt. Not as good a guitarist as Jimi by any means, not in the slightest, but he fits the other criteria.

Stay with me, safe and ignorant.

well eric clapton was in a band called the yardbirds with jeff beck. clapton left, and the remaining members of the yardbirds decided to pick up page as the new guitar player to replace him. beck's drinking problems got to the band or something and they broke up. so, page wanted the legacy of the yardbirds to live on so he went and started a new band with a couple guys named robert plant, john bonham and john paul jones. the original name of led zeppelin was actually the new yardbirds until someone told them that they were so heavy they would go donw like a lead zeppelin and the name stuck, but they later dropped the a inthe word lead, not to be mistaken for the word that sounds like leed with the same spelling.You_Enjoy_Myself wrote:Please explain this in detailDutch17 wrote:jack white and curt cobain do not deserve to be on that list. ive never liked nirvana's music and i dont see whats so special about it. if it was revolutionary...what a shitty revolution. but if cobain and white are on that list, then dave def should be. they were just popular guitar players, and imo dave is more talented than they were/are. also, maybe im the only one, but i think jimmy page is better than clapton. perhaps thats just because i like zeps music better than claptons, but i prefer him. but then again, odds are zeppelin never would have been a band if it werent for clapton.

Hendrix was basically stoned everytime he played live, and he never really flexed his full potential on the studio recordings. Although from what hardcore fans have told me, not only where his solo's ingenious and creative, but when he was sober he could play faster then anyone else.
Its like... getting two birds stoned at once. (Ricky-trailor park boys).

You said "well eric clapton was in a band called the yardbirds with jeff beck."Dutch17 wrote:didnt i say that clapton left before beck did?
And to my understanding Beck was clapton's replacement, they were never in the band together. You did say he left before beck, but all I was trying to say is that they were never in the band together

David Gilmour at #82 makes me want to kill people.jkanter wrote:I mean that list is a farce anyway....DAVID GILMOUR(FLOYD) AS #82!!!!!!
DEREK TRUCKS AS #81!!!!!!
TREY AS #73!!!!!
SANTANA AS #15!!!! BECK HIGHER THAN ALL THOSE AT #14!!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?
But I will say this......every single one of thsoe top 7 deserve to be there. Ok, you can make an arguement that Page should be there...maybe Santana or Garcia.......but that top 7 is just unreal.
I can only imagine what a jam session between those guys would be like.......ha, kinda like the ending to Layla(w/ Clapton and Duane).......x10000000
I had to edit and put one more thing in there............it goes back to that David Gilmour....Dude..the fucking musical genious behind Pink Floyd...PINK FLOYD!!!!! POSSIBLY, AND ARGUABLY, THE GREATEST, MOST UNIQUE, BAND IN HISTORY OF MUSIC......THEIR MAIN MUSICIAN...THE MUSICAL GENIOUS DRIVING THEM.....AT #82!!!! I know what you'll all say....there is no doubt that Floyd wouldn't have been Floyd w/o Roger Waters...but he was the LYRICAL genious behind them....Floyd wouldn't have been the SAME Floyd w/o Gilmour in there...he was the MUSIC MAN. He often played bass on their albums which was Water's instrument live.
Edit #2 will have me ranting about Derek Trucks. HAS RS EVEN EVER SEEN HIM PLAY?!!?!!?!?! I hardly believe anyone that puts fucking Britney Spears on their cover....would be going out to listen to Derek Trucks play guitar. If they did, it was probably from an Allman Brother concert where he wouldn't have stood out and they didn't know him and they kept on saying, where is that unreal, amazing, mesmorizing, stupendous, eclectic slide guitar coming from1?!?!?1?!?!?! Then they just go assume it was a recording of a dead Duane Allman and they go on smoking their crack as they write about some guy they heard abotu once to put him as #81 on all time greatest guitarists even though he is better than about 60 of everyone else
I mean COME ON....sorry, shit like that PISSES ME OFF
