The Maker

Unread post by jsgksu » Wed Jun 04, 2003 4:35 am

Ok, I was just playing along with the 10/24/02 DVD and then The Maker came on and I realized I didnt know how to play it so I came to this site and looked up the tabs. They werent anything like what he was playing. He was playing and F for most of the song then something else than a C for the verse and something very similair for the rest of the song. Anyone know what Im talking about? Kanter, have you seen that video? I tried playing it the other way and it sounds good too, but its not the way he plays it on teh Benaroya Solo Show. Anyone got any clues?

That's funny you should mention this. I was just starting to learn it this morning. I have the DVD you are talking about, so when I get home tonight I'll check it out to see what you mean and get back to you.

There was a huge DVD Tree for it a few weeks back, shouldnt have left the site for so long  Anyways, yes it has IBYU and the DVD is awesome itself. I have that and 4/20/02, 9/29/02, 9/7/02 and 12/5/00 are all on their way to me. They were all recorded and made by fans and the Benaroya Show is amazing and Ive heard 4/20 is also but havent seen it or any of the others yet though. Im buying a DVD burner in a week or two and will be offering up DVD B&P's soon after so you can sign up then if your quick and Ill burn them for you. Im only gonna let like 5-10 people sign up initially for each show I have but will make sure people who want them get them eventually. If you feel like trying to get your hands on one soon try: http://www.sharingthegroove.org/msgboar ... &forumid=6 Sometimes some kind soul will hook you up with a B&P or you can wait and watch for someone to offer up a B&P for shows.

So have a bunch of people, and if Id put them on the list then there would be no room for you already. So, Im just gonna offer up a B&P and whoever gets there first will get the DVD first, I dont know how to do it any more fairly. Ill post in my old message about getting a dvd burner when I get my dvd burner so then just keep a look out in the next few days for it. I really dont think it will fill up quickly. The only reason the last one filled up so quickly was because there was links from every DMB site on the net for it. So the few regulars on here that really want it should be able to sign up in time. If not, like I said, Ill make sure they get it sooner or later.

jsgksu...I watched the DVD last night and you are correct. He does not play it anything like the tab on this site. He plays it all in the 1st position.

I did not have time to sit down and try to play it out, but it looks like its based on an F (barre chord)-D-C chord progression.

Jared...have you had a chance to check out this DVD? I'm sure you have a copy of it.

Dave plays a few songs differently during solo shows because he doesn't have the band behind him - this may be the reason for this discrepancy.

I think he's been playing it this way more recently. Even in the d/t tour he played it with mostly the barred F. On the Lost Acoustics disc 1, he uses the older sliding motion. The newer way is much easier and fuller sounding to me.

He uses these chords

F Dm C B?
1332xx xx0231 x3201x x133xx

(B?) = sorta mute the chord and begin playing it again
example

Dm C F
oooooh oooooh, deeep water

Dm C F
black and cold like the night

B? C
I stand with arms wide open

F B?
I run a twisted mile

(B?)
I'm not a stranger

C F
in they eyes of the maker I can't get the notes to go over the right parts of the notes sorry.

he does play it the way it is on this site also though...I think the old way sounds much better...it sounds watered down to me in the 10-24-02 concert...playing it that way would be like playing Say Goodbye "A, E, D, A"

Yeah, the older way probably does sound better, I havent tried to learn it that way yet becuase when I went to learn it I was watching the DVD and so I was going off that version. Ill probably try to learn it the other way but I just thought Id point this out in case Kanter or anyone else wanted to add that way to the site since Dave does play it that way also.
