I saw blues instructional video on the internet with Yngwi Malmsteen, and it was horrible, he's is defiantly a metal shredder, which isn't a bad thing (i hate it) but he just can't play blues, sorry to wander off subject. Bela and Tim rule! 8)GuitarGuy305 wrote:Tim does play banjo. He used to play it sometimes at his weekly gigs at Miller's many years ago.
And, as has been stated many times before by fans of Tim's here that have heard more from him than just Stream: Tim is not a shredder. Yngwie Malmsteen is a shredder.

ok, you're right. but tim has been known to just shred. some of his stuff is just boring to me cause he's doing nothing but seeing how fast he can go. but then other times, he almost brings a tear to my eye w/ how beautiful he sounds in the background. that's the stuff i like. the stuff where you don't even really know he's there...like his stuff in the chorus of crush. and about 40 percent of his solos are awesome. the other 60 seem to get on my nerves, too busy. but you're right...he's more than a shredder.6StringSamurai wrote:i see your point but hes oh so much more than a shredderAppsoldier wrote:how can you compair a banjoist (is that the word) to a shredder anyway?

I think he does more melody stuff w/ effects solos than shred solosAppsoldier wrote:ok, you're right. but tim has been known to just shred. some of his stuff is just boring to me cause he's doing nothing but seeing how fast he can go. but then other times, he almost brings a tear to my eye w/ how beautiful he sounds in the background. that's the stuff i like. the stuff where you don't even really know he's there...like his stuff in the chorus of crush. and about 40 percent of his solos are awesome. the other 60 seem to get on my nerves, too busy. but you're right...he's more than a shredder.6StringSamurai wrote:i see your point but hes oh so much more than a shredderAppsoldier wrote:how can you compair a banjoist (is that the word) to a shredder anyway?

Bela IMO is the greatest banjo player that lives right now. What he adds to some songs are more then timmy ever could. No offense to tim, i like some of his stuff alot, and I love d+t. But his [Bela's] style just adds SO MUCH. Sojourn of Arjuna/41...I don't think tim can come close to some of those things and have them flow so smoothly. Some of Tim's stuff is just aggravating, like on DDTW. Bela is just much smoother and compliments dave better, but I know I'm alone on that opinion, so flame away. just wait until we get 12-8-98 fuckers. That will show you. Bela can add throughout entire songs with the full band, I don't think I can say the same for tim.

Yes he does. I find myself sifting through D&T shows and DMB + T shows looking for solos with fast shit, and I have a hard time finding solos that are just blatantly fast solos and nothing more.6StringSamurai wrote:I think he does more melody stuff w/ effects solos than shred solosAppsoldier wrote:ok, you're right. but tim has been known to just shred. some of his stuff is just boring to me cause he's doing nothing but seeing how fast he can go. but then other times, he almost brings a tear to my eye w/ how beautiful he sounds in the background. that's the stuff i like. the stuff where you don't even really know he's there...like his stuff in the chorus of crush. and about 40 percent of his solos are awesome. the other 60 seem to get on my nerves, too busy. but you're right...he's more than a shredder.6StringSamurai wrote:i see your point but hes oh so much more than a shredderAppsoldier wrote:how can you compair a banjoist (is that the word) to a shredder anyway?

have you ever listened to tim solo, its like 80% beauty, and 20% shredding. he only shreds most of the time with dave because dave is suposed to be the lead gutiar, and tim is just background and solos. his solo stuff isnt about playing as fast as he can, his solo stuff is to see how amazing he can make a few notes sound, and then make it meaningful.Appsoldier wrote:ok, you're right. but tim has been known to just shred. some of his stuff is just boring to me cause he's doing nothing but seeing how fast he can go. but then other times, he almost brings a tear to my eye w/ how beautiful he sounds in the background. that's the stuff i like. the stuff where you don't even really know he's there...like his stuff in the chorus of crush. and about 40 percent of his solos are awesome. the other 60 seem to get on my nerves, too busy. but you're right...he's more than a shredder.6StringSamurai wrote:i see your point but hes oh so much more than a shredderAppsoldier wrote:how can you compair a banjoist (is that the word) to a shredder anyway?
also this thread wasnt about how they both fit with the band. this seemed to be about the artist themselves, everyone against tim in here is his stuff with dave, he has soooo much more stuff, his d+t stuff is awesome, but ill take a tim solo concert anyday.
