is anyone elses music influenced by daves
every single song i write has the same style as dave and is much more aggressive, however they are rooted from daves music. Just wanted to know if anyone else feels or plays the same way i do when i comes to their other music. I also have a bunch of songs that are songs that tim would play, do you think that i would be criticized for this or do you think people will accept it, i mean it is not blatantly dave music but they style.

The reason i picked up a guitar was because of Billy Corgan of the smashing pumpkins. I just love the pumpkins and basically made my mom buy me a guitar on my eighteenth birthday(almost six yr. ago).
After i mastered billy and james' styles(not the solos) i hit up the dave matthews, probably about 1997-98. Dave has totally influenced the way i play the guitar. Even now when i play pumpkins songs that percussive acousic dave style slips through. It was the pumpkins that got me started but its dave who runs the show now
You got to play the guitar with dave? *slowly bows and walks away*

Yeah, you're a lucky son of a bitch :-p
Yes, dave influences my guitar style almost 100%.. I picked up the guitar when listening to metallica, quit for a while, then came back and played nothing but dave.. i still play almost all dave.. few misc. songs too

Yeah, most of the music I write and the way I jam on other songs all has that percussive, droning, yet hyperkentic quality on dave and tim's music. Take that cool outro from Mrs. Robinson by S&G, and I jam on it and expand on it, interpolating the intro and adding cool licks and 9th chords. I love playing with a capo on 2nd fret. The open strings complement my kind of playing so much better.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

the two things dave has influenced. I like to do those looping tunes, where it's something somewhat short, and then you repeat it, either it be chords or a riff.
The other is that I do use "dave chords" and such in my songs.
For the meaning, and the overal song, it's my style. And the lyrics have spread from my poetry I wrote a lot since about 6 years ago.
So, dmb has influenced me 20%.
