FLAC24

Unread post by sunglassesatnight » Sun Dec 11, 2005 12:20 am

Does anyone here have experience with this? I've heard a lot of buzz on its quality and I know it's used for "DVD Audio." If I'm watching a fan taped DVD, is FLAC24 audio going to sound like this does?
And what is necessary to play the files?

Thanks folks.

I'm not sure what is necessary to listen to the files, but the 24 bit flac will usually be better than what you hear on a fan based DVD......most fan based shows use the audio pulls that are 16 bit (there are some dvd's that use higher quality bitrate).

The sound from 24 bit audio is noticably better....very crisp. I want to find out more about them and start using them. Just never had the time.

So why is 16 bit FLAC still "lossless?"

OK....check this link out for a comparison between 16 and 24.

There will be a pop test on this in the future

16 bit can or can not be lossy just as 24 bit can be
anytime you have flac/shn you assume its lossless
so yes 16 and 24 bit flac files are lossless

although you could make a mp3 or some other lossy file out of a 16 or 24 bit wav/aiff file
