SHN Files

Unread post by CPTino3001 » Sat Feb 22, 2003 1:45 pm

I usually don't burn the shn files from antsmarching.org, do I lose any qualtiy when listening to them with SHN Amp or a similar program? Or I guess what I'm asking is does the quality improve when I burn them...

I don't believe the quality improves at all when you convert them up to .wav.
good, and you?

I'm pretty sure that SHN is the raw format tapers use, so that would be the best quality file and SHNamp rules!!!

ive had problems playing shn files on my comp when i run anything other than a browser so if you're gonna burn the shn files you minues well convert them to wav too while you're at it.

Well, if you have/use winamp to listen to music, then you can download and install SHNamp from etree.org (it's listed in the first block of the right column - note: get ver. 2 if you use winamp 2 and ver. 3 if you use winamp 3). If you don't have/use winamp, then you can download mkwACT (same website) to convert the SHN to wav file and you can listen to it with any old media player.

ok, i had downloaded a file from antsmarching.org which i thought was a complete show by using the mkwact converter thing and it just turned out to be boyd playing one song, "amazing grace". can you download full shows from antsmarching.org or just individual songs? if not, is there somewhere you can? i tried that one sight where you have to have a certain amount of dave shows on file which i don't have but i do have a lot of bootleg cds. can i just copy them into file form on my computer and share it with them? i just want to be able to download dave shows to build my collection and to be able to copy them to cds. i don't really know much at all about computers. help

Okay, here's how it works (this is for everyone):
1) Create an account on antsmarching.org
2) Click on "Downloads" in the "Quick Links" column on your left.
3) Press "Login!" at the bottom of the page.
4) Select the year of the show you wish to download.
5) Find the show you wish to download (listed by date of show).
6) Download ALL of the .shn files for that show, including the .md5 files if you want to verify their integrities (with mkwACT). Each file is a different song in the show and the files are split up into discs and tracks (i.e. d1t09 = disc 1, track 9).
7) Either get shnAMP or mkwACT from etree.org to listen to the files on your computer or use mkwACT to convert them to .wav files and burn them using Ahead Nero or Roxio Easy CD Creator (there are others, these are the two most popular).

As of today (2/24/03), the shn server at am.org appears to be offline, but it should be up in the very near future, looks like a bandwidth issue.
