the tapers are the ones who are so stern about not converting, and that's where your shows come from

and give the info on the videos if you want

will, would you just say okay and respect it? just don't convert these shows to mp3s if you're gonna trade them.

and brock, i did know that i can import with a different encoder. whati did not know is that the file keeps its quality loss even if you put it back to wav.

My 2 cents...and I know I am repeating some of what has already been said, but here goes:

Converting to mp3 is for your personal use only, PERIOD. Those mp3 files should NOT go beyond your possesion....no exceptions.

If you put mp3 files in your getfile you have just polluted the trading pool...plain and simple. You have no control over where a mp3 file goes once you let it go...even if you give it to your best friend.

mp3 is a lossy format. If you want to know what that means, just try to download a copy of #40 from Yoshi's off of kazza, limewire or others and see what you get....probably the best version of #40 ever done (IMHO) yet it sounds like shit from all the static, etc. that comes from the continual trading of mp3.

Then mp3's get converted to wav...then to shn...and now nobody knows what the hell is circulating. Is that what you really want? I sure don't. I want to know that when I trade/b&p/download a show, I am getting the highest quality version of that show possible....like it was when it was taped.

The tapers specifically put it in the info file for each show NOT to convert to mp3. They are not doing this to be dicks, they are doing this because they want people generations down the line to enjoy the quality as it was originally taped. These tapers put their shows out to everyone for free...the ONLY thing they ask in return is to not decode to mp3. They are not asking for much are they? Please respect them.

mp3's are not to be traded on these boards as matty and brock said. Putting mp3's in your getfile and then announcing it on these boards is the same as trading them in my opinion.

Matty I think you are completely wrong here.

The "no conversion to mp3" rule is intended for traders only. When you are trading there should be conversion. But for your own personal use you are free to do what you want. I convert my shows to mp3 if I want to play them on my DVD player. Is that wrong? Or is it wrong to give somebody an mp3 show who doesn't have the knowledge or capability to use SHN or SHN converter. ie. My friends Dad wanted a live DMB show. I converted the SHN's to mp3's for him.

If they are in his getfile, so what! H is not breaking any rules as he is offically not trading. Sorry Matt. You are dead wrong.

The rules for the trading forum are established by he and Danny, not you, so I don't really see how he can be "dead wrong". In every pull's source file you will find "DO NOT CONVERT TO LOSSY FORMATS SUCH AS MP3". Many people still do for personal use, and as long as it's for personal use, no one can really complain. However, once you make them available for public consumption (i.e., putting them in your "getfile" and then announcing them in a trading forum that explicitly disallows mp3's), you are breaking the trader's wishes. Period. (Note that the original post was edited.) MP3 is lossy, and is not suitable for trading. Ever.

why do you think he put the files in his getfile to begin with? so people could get them, and thus spread them as mp3's

I gotta agree with Matty here. If he is converting the SHN's to mp3's for his personal use, that means it is for him ONLY. That is what personal use means, only to be used by the person themself. If he has these mp3's in his getfile then he isn't following the rules. Plain and simple.

He is not trading. Just showing people what he has if anybody would like to listen to it. He is not claiming that these files are SHN format (as you can see by the "MP3" extension.

I know & undertsand the rules of trading. This isn't the first forum to ever offer trading with respect to digital sources. - And I hope these rules are EXACTLY the same as the international B & P trading etiquette one are.

AS I STATED BEFORE, the original post was edited. It originally was "I have a bunch of live shows available for download in my getfile, get them". THAT IS trading, and it's explicitly disallowed, on this forum, and on any other respectable trading forum.

If we start disrespecting the tapers that invested thousands of dollars in this to begin with, then we won't have tapers anymore. These rules exist for a reason.

Parade? Grow up. They were enforcing one of the few rules of this forum. This isn't that difficult of a concept.
