Bela Fleck Better Than Tim Reynolds?

Unread post by subotai » Wed Oct 09, 2002 3:53 am

Who is technically the best musician? I have heard Bela improvise some insane stuff that was also really beautiful and melaodic. Is Tim up to the Bela Fleck challenge? Who do you think is the better player? (Yes I know this is the guitar forum and Bela Fleck isnt a guitar player that I know of but it seemed to fit).

ARE YOU SERIOUS!!!???

Tim Reynolds can beat Bella up side and down...this guy understands the instument and can mend it with his talent into an abstract bliss!

Bella is good but, hey c'mon, listen to some of Tim's real good solo stuff...

Turn it into love
And then they were free
Stranger in a strained land
Letting go
allon with any other countless Tim songs and come back and ask that question again(IMO)!

TIM RULES!...(bella too...)

I'd say they're different. Why does everything have to turn into a competition? Just like on AM.org with the "who is better than tim" dicussion.

They are both incredible musicians, and it's hard to compare guitar to banjo, but i think i would go with bela. he's incredibly flexible. he can go bluegrass, rock, jazz, or classical and do it all amazingly well. check out his classical album "perpetual motion" if you're into that. anyways it's apples and oranges trying to pick between those two. both awesome.

I have to agree with those who have said there's just no real comparison there. Two very different styles.

They both kick ass; no need for one to kick more than the other. ;)

Tim would beat Bela .... but if it was TR and Victor Wooten .... if you have ever seen VW play you know what I mean . I have seen TR in solo concerts and seen the Flecktones in concert ... and Victor Wooten mighty be able to beat TR ....... if you have seen him play you know what I'm talking about ........ it will "FREAK YOU OUT " !!! Cheers

Hard to compare them but good lord is Reynolds amazing. Go to his official website and (if the darn links work) check out some of those songs. According to that site, Tim plays like 10 or more instruments (unless i read wrong) he just has a wierd way of like "being one" with the music as cliche as that sounds. Can't compare them though.

Bela is great ( must see in concert ) Reynolds is great ( must see in concert ) Victor Wooten is great ( also a must see . But like I said before the conpedition lies in Wooten and Reynolds , and you know what I think Victor Wooten could beat TR . I have seen both in concert many times and TR is amazing on guitar , but Wooten is UNBELEIVABLE .......... YOU MUST SEE !!!!! Cheers

i have to say that i think bela is a more refined musician while timmy is much more of a jam artist. Bela has a haunting EXACT style... timmy again relys on echos, looping, etc... it's all a matter of preference vs style. i have Fleck-Meyer show from 2002 and i like that concert better then my Tim Reynolds shows... but then i like Tim and Dave's Crush (vh1) better then any other dave song out there...

go figure, it's all about preference. i doubt tim reynolds can read music. from what i understand he doesnt know theory either (this is 2nd hand info i have no idea how reliable that is). he plays all by ear.. if im wrong please no flaming. again this is 2nd hand info.. i never talked to tim reynolds my self personally :P

tims official site had a ftp server on it that had soundboard shows, it offered both mp3s and shns, it was a good deal. It might still be up, I havent downloaded off of it in a year and from what I remember it was up and down
This is my signature, I hope you enjoy it.
