I think people are saying that because they really don't like how he has been playing as of late. Could be wrong, but its cuz he has been outta tune a few times and people have joked about him not being able to hear how bad he sounds. If he is really going deaf then I'm a retard and feel real bad...

a few times??? that is the one completely true understatement of the boards, clear cut, but anyways, yeah, you're basically right though, the idea of him going deaf is pretty dumb. and I've met him more than a few times and he could hear me fine, so why wouldn't he be able to hear really loud monitors blasting in his ears?

that doesn't mean jack when it really comes down to it. that's just the method. there aren't really any other forms of violin methods, are there? rock violin? I think not...that's just what they say to make it sound fancy but that's about the most general description ever. the reason he started playing violin is because he signed up for a strings class thinking it would teach him guitar when in fact it was strings as in violin, cello, etc...I have one word to describe every aspect of Boyd Tinsley's playing: HACK!!! Sure, he didn't always go out of tune AS much back in the day, but he's never been a really good violinist...always relying on the same simple scale patterns and just playing blah notes in general...ticohans back in the day really went in depth about how crappy his style always has been. look for my thread entitled "for all those who think boyd tinsley is a good violinist" it's in there...

hmm... i suppose you are the expert on analyzing styles

his playing is more akin to a fiddler, not a violinist... and saying he was never good is pretty subjective; just because he uses simple scale patterns doesn't make him a bad player... to quote herbie hancock "complexity is born of simplicity". playing complex scales doesn't make you good...

ah well. i love simplicity. our lives are complicated enough as it is...i mean, damn, not to abandon my already non-existent masculine side, but a lot of us aren't even amazed just by looking out at the stars anymore. "everybody knows, it sucks to grow up."

you're missing the point, and I know many violinists who all completely agree that he sucks colossally, it's no big secret...so  right back at you

he constantly goes out of tune, his tone is terrible, it's always screeching, never clean, he tries to do these double stops all the time and fails miserably resulting in even more screeching, plus his solo's are just boring to me, if you really listen to him, he's hardly doing anything, just playing the same notes in the same position the whole time while he hacks away with his bow like he's cutting down a tree. I literally have played with 7 or 8 other violinists that just can play circles around Boyd. I can make a recording with my one friend sometime if you'd like...we could have an interview where he talks about all the ways that Boyd sucks and then we'll play a few DMB tunes and you'll see how someone who actually knows what they're doing sounds like.
