Why did DMB scrap the Lillywhite Sessions?

Unread post by edbean » Thu Sep 02, 2010 2:27 am

I know a crapload about dmb, am a diehard fan, but I still dont fully understand why dmb scrapped the lillywhite sessions. Ive read a few things but nothing that was really specific.

Enlighten me if this isnt a n00b question thats been posted a million times.

THANKS!

Probably the most complete, accurate and in depth info on the situation.

Ok, so I read all of that.

My question is this. Or I guess "correct me if im wrong". They made btcs before the lillywhite sessions. Then started writing songs and because the band didnt like it in combination with forum chat, the band didnt put the cd out. Instead they ditched lillywhite (which btw is probably the most stupid thing ive ever heard, if only they had listened to him about the studio location!!!)

I guess the simple question is. What is the exact reason they didnt put the cd out? Didnt like it? Negative feedback?

thank you.

A bunch of reasons. They were tired from the constant touring, Dave was in an alcohol fueled depression, no one wanted to work under Lillywhite's perfectionism and they were distracted by little things due to working in their hometown. They were pretty much fed up with the whole gig at the time and they nearly just called it quits. Just a lot of bad juju. And they did finish it, only they called it Busted Stuff.

Awesome thank you. And I know its technically called "busted stuff" but its not the same. Whats your opinion of lillywhite? Id have to say I wouldnt mind his perfectionism with his influence on the before these crowded streets cd.

Lillywhite is a great producer,no question about it. He channeled the band's best work. But as a person, he comes across as an insufferable douchebag. I can totally get their frustration in working with him.

Yep, you only have to listen to about 20 seconds of that to hate the guy's guts.
