Why would DMB break-up?

Unread post by checkii » Wed Aug 20, 2008 11:38 am

Seriously. someone died, how often does a band just pack it up and quit when someone dies?

Roi may have done arrangements for the band, but i think re-hiring Baston made it clear that they dont care about the quality of their music.

I dont see one logical reason why they would break up.

Zeppelin quit when Bonham died. Granted, there was a big lead-up to it and he was kind of irreplaceable.

For the same reason the Grateful Dead are now just The Dead. It will never be the same without him. No matter what, they will never again be The Dave Matthews Band. It is physically impossible. I hope they go on, but they will never be DMB again. I know GD went through a lot of members, but at the core it was always Jerry. Leroi was the core.

Im pretty sure Dave Matthews is the core of the Dave Matthews Band. Coffin has shown that the quality of the music will not go down without Roi

You are right, He is not the Core, Not the Fire, Not the one who decides "we're taking off with this". You are right. And Coffin is a better fit anyway, He is the one who helped dave form the band in the first place.

Um, yes. It's the Dave Matthews Band. Dave is and has always been the frontman, the "core" as you put it. He is the most recognizable element of the band, just like Jerry was to the Grateful Dead. I'd bet most people at the show last night didn't even know who LeRoi Moore was before Dave told them he died.

you are confusing Frontman and Core. And yes, most of the people don't know who leroi is. Most of the people only really know one band member's name, and that is Rashawn Ross. What is Ironic is that this is a thread to honor Leroi, and basically you guys are implying that he is a minor, replacable member. By saying he was the core was to honor all that he did bring to the band. I don't want to debate who the "core" is, and I regret my choice of words. I just chose that word to enhance the impact he had on the music. I am getting frustrated because it seems that a lot of people on this board are just Dave Matthews fans, not DMB.
