This track blows me away every time I hear it. I found a new appreciation for it last night, when it dawned on me that the lyrics appear to be a father lamenting the suicide of his troubled daughter....(IMHO anyway).

This song is decent at best now. It had a lot of potential two years ago, but they fucked it up with Dave just yelling now instead of putting good lyrics together for it and the two parts still don't sound right together to me.

Damn... thought this would get a bit more love from the 'tabs boys. I think it's the best part about the Piedmont release...Along with Dreaming Tree and YMDT. Any other versions that anyone has that can show me more Shotgun .... post 'em!

The version from Hartford last year, 8.5.07 is infinitely better. Way too much screaming from Dave on the sampler release.
I wish people would realize that just because Dave yells doesn't mean it's an amazing song.

Yeah, I do love the power of the yelling-type singing in ABI, What You Are, Shotgun, Bartender etc.... It's not what makes the songs, but it adds a cracking bit of spine-tingling intensity.....

I've only heard a handful of versions of Shotgun, but this is one of my favorites. There's no screaming the lyrics, and it's just as powerful. I really do love the song, but what makes or breaks it for me is Dave's vocal performance. It's that unexplainable Dave quality... just the way he sings a word or line that gives you chills. This version has several of those moments for me.
