type of person

Unread post by matthews123 » Sat May 24, 2003 12:22 am

do you think you could tell the type of person from the dave matthews songs he/she listens to or likes the most....hmm im kinda drunk and thinking a lot but i noticed that i tend to like LWS cuz of all the break ups and you can always feel that emotion pouring through him and his guitar. but one of my friend really likes jimi thing and rhyme and reason...maybe a drug addict haha or someone obsessed with the ideas of how one thing can greatly alter your conciousness...anyway just ur thoughts.
if i were giving advice to someone on how to fly.....

id probably say throw yourself at the ground..and miss.

I think the only thing to really "tell" is a true fan from a fake fan. For example, someone that listens to Crash, Everyday and I Did It over and over again you can bet isn't a real fan.
I can't believe that we would lie in our graves wondering if we had spent our living days well, and I can't believe that we would lie in our graves dreaming of things that we might have been...

Those people piss me off, I mean theyve stumbled upon a great band but dont even realize or apprecitae it. They just listen to the radio and new shit over and over again, and stick out like a sore thumb at concerts and shit too.

So does someone like me piss you off? Me being a fan that really likes a diverse lot of his music, but I really don't like the actual band. I own almost all the cd's (and love songs off of them all) and the one that I dont im going to buy before too much longer, but I'm still not a fan of the more band influenced songs unless they're being performed by Dave solo. Ants Marching for example...dont care for the UTTAD version of it, but I can't get enough of it on LLC. So what kind fan am I?

Well what we mean is that you like the band just because everyone else does. If you genuinely like the music, then that's great. But if you like them only so you can be like everyone else (which would be only liking the radio songs) then yer a poser  .

Pretty much what I mean, I dont think your one of the people Im talking about m98ter at all, Im talking about the girls in 10th grade that go to a show and yell "Crash Into Me!!!!!!!" the whole time. Those people piss me off. Not someone who likes their music and not just the two songs theyver heard on the radio.

Yeah, I can relate to it with my love for Weezer. Its never cool when soemone sees you wearing a Weezer T-shirt and says "weezer....theyre that hash pipe muppet band right?" Im a huge Dave fan, so much so that LLC is probably my favorite CD of all time (least untill the solo comes out), but the crappy fans don't annoy me so much. Maybe its cause I can play crash when the dumb girl asks for it 8) ?

On the subject of Weezer, I think Pinkerton is their best cd, though I havent really listened to the last two. Do you like that cd, its my favorite and most other people I talk to think its terrible.

I only moderatly hate it...... :) I'm not a huge weezer fan, though. Definatly it is better than some other CDs, namely anything by Justin Timberlake.

EDIT: Just kidding about moderately hateing it, I do think its good, its just not my favorite

Pinkerton most definitely has its strong points, and which of the two is better (Blue [their first] or Pinkerton) is a tough call. Thats pretty much the biggest debate on any Weezer message board you'll find. I tend to lean towards Blue being the better of the two because to me it seems to have less filler than Pinkerton. If I said that on any Weezer board id get hounded for it, but I think its the case. Pinkerton's more mediocre songs are just not quite as good as the Blue albums mediocre songs...take Getchoo from Pinkerton against Holiday from the Blue album. But then again, it could just be that I'm more a fan of something a little more upbeat? All in all, its a tough call and both are awesome. Pink Triangle and El Scorcho are two of my favortie songs of all time. And I won't even bother to mention the latter two, because other than Island in the Sun im not a huge fan of anything else from that period....although Keep Fishin was pretty good untill the video made it to gimicky. Theres always hope for the next album though....ive heard some kickass demo's recently....whether they make the album is anyone's call.

I actually felt that the there were 2 or 3 mediocre songs on the blue album that I skip over most always. But on Pinkerton, I may like some songs more than others but love that whole cd front to back and never skip over any songs, but to each his own, no sense in arguing over preference or opinions.

Hello everyone...I'm new to this board, well I've been on it a bunch but this is my first post...YAY! I just wanted to comment on this subject area...I think for one that you can tell how someone is by what kind of music they are into so when I meet someone that is a DMB fan I get stoked and I know that 9 times out of 10 we will have shit in common. The people that I can't stand are the ones that just like the band because they think it is cool or some shit...they are the ones that say they like a song and might have never heard it, and then get their rich parents to get them better tickets then I can ever get and sit through the whole concert waiting for radio friendly songs to be played. Saying that, I totally see where you are coming from when you say that people who like Crash, I did it, Space Between, etc., aren't really fans. Sometimes that is true, but we have to remember to make the distinction between the people that heard that song on the radio and then started listening to the other DMB music and just love hearing that song live because it got them hooked to the band and then there are those who hear those songs and nothing else, like the stupid girls that go to see DMB to meet guys...pisses me off :o ~sorry

When someone asks me what my favorite DMB song is I get embarrassed because it's crash...it was the first song that got me and I fell in love with the band right away..and yes when I see a boy that is playing the guitar (I have a weakness for them) I ask them to play Crash because it is an absolutely amazing beautiful song....I get embarrassed because I think that the person puts me in the category as one of those fans...but trust me I'm not ..pig and I'll Back You Up are my other two favorites

And just one other thing, when I went to see Dave and Tim in March it was awesome, the mood was quiet and everyone listened to the songs, you could almost hear a pin drop, but when they played Crush, some drunk asshole got on the phone and was screaming to is girlfriend "this is our song baby, i love you, i miss you etc"....those are the worst kinds of 'fans'

Sorry for the long first email and all of the run on sentences....
