Playing in front of family

Unread post by dmb58hsa » Thu May 15, 2003 10:28 am

Whenever there is a get together with the family sometimes ill bring my guitar along and play. My uncle also plays classical guitar but he really sucks and he just plays the same song over and over. However everyone tunes in on him when he plays and completely ignores me when I play (for the most part). My brother is totally against me bringing my guitar anywhere because he thinks im trying to show off.

i get told to bring my guitar to family functions. they ask me to play one song then they go about their things again. it doesn't bother me because i love to play. i would bring it along anyway because i would find sometime to play it during the day...even if it was for myself

I never take my guitar anywhere, even if people ask. I guess I just dont want to be "that guy." In the case of family though, I could see how it would be a little different.

my family is on the other side of the country, so we dont hang out much. but i do love playing in front of people. im usually a very shy guy, only outgoing with my friends. but when im onstage, im an attention whore (note: i dont try to get all the attention, but i sure soak it all in).

both of my parents are into music...my dad is the one who had me listening to the BeeGees and the Moody Blues at like 6  my dad taught himself guitar (I learned playing on his blonde finished Ibanez acoustic)...he was the one who taught me to appreciate music and to play...I took it beyond what he did, but that is the cool thing...maybe some day I will have a son who plays better than me  ...it is always fun to play a new song for them when I learn it :)

and Shane, I know your you position, but there is love that is a family bond that cannot be severed...no matter how bad it gets...remember that...

yeah you always gotta love your mom. my mom is one of my best friends. although i suppose it is different when ya get older (geez i sound like i am preaching)...cause they really aren't parents in the boss-you-around sense...more of the friendly advice sense. like today i was like "mom i am flying to baltimore next week" and she just says "ok." always gotta love your mom...when everyone else is gone, moms will always stand by you, even if it means risking their happiness, their family, their marriage...and trust me, i know. moms are the greatest.
