Someone explain JTR to me please
Ok i have been wondering about this for a while and never thought to ask. It says on the main page that John the revelator is a cover song, i always thought Dave wrote it. Who's song is it if this is the case?

John The Revelator is a cover song, JTR is not. John The Revelator is a song by a folk singer from the early 1900's, I can't remember his name right now, but I think his last name is Johnson. That is the song that Dave covered in 1999 with Tim and Santana on occasion. And even when he covered it he used his own guitar part and lyrics for the most part. From that Dave came up with JTR that we all know from the LWS.

Blind Willie Johnson is the dudes name. Sounds like this guy either worked in a coal mine or smoked like a lot of cigs. There is a sound clip of the song "John the Revelator" on this page and a bio of his tramatic life. What a guy!

During the supernatural sessions, they worked on 2 tunes, john the revelator and love of my life. During playing the first one, santana started singing the main lyrics of willie's song, and they loved it. Love of my Life was taken over Revelator. When dmb brought it into studio, they got rid of that lyrics, it became JTR.
