Saw the DMBTB tonight

Holy.Fuck.

Dave Matthews Tribute Band:

I'm pretty sure every member of that band is in fact more talented than DMB themselves. The violinist was IN TUNE, the saxophonist was like jeff fucking coffin, played two saxes at once, the drummer was off the fucking wall, people were going up on stage throwing money and beers at him...incredible. The bassist was a god among men. He was like Victor Wooten himself. He doubled thumped through Dancing Nancies, Watchtower and some of Grey Street. I was in awe. That mother fucker brang the funk. He played a Fodera that sounded amazing. Now I am Stefan's staunchest supporter, but this guy was just off the fucking hook, and I wouldn't mind seeing him join up with the band on a few occasions. However, he did tend to overplay on the slower songs which did make me thankful that Stefan is so modest and poetic with his playing. The wanking is really awesome to see, but it does get irritating when in WAYG and Everyday there are fills EVERYWHERE. So in short, this guy was amazing, but that type of bass playing just doesn't work with DMB full time. I'd loooove to see him again though.

So if these guys ever come through, SEE THEM. It was ten dollars and I think I'd rather watch the bassist and drummer play solo then see DMB live for the umpteenth time. No fucking joke here bros.

Oh yea, playing someone elses songs sure takes a lot of musical talent  . Im sure they are amazing, but I find more respect for a muscians when they take that "talent" and put it towards their own songs. That's just me though.

Sounds awsome. If they come near me and I got 10$, Im sure I would check them out.

Don't be a douche. I agree that cover bands aren't the most creative things. But the bassist wasn't even playing stefan's parts. Do you know what a double thump is? I don't think stefan has ever even touched that technique on stage. Making jeff coffin solos fit in DMB's atmosphere takes some talent. I was very impressed, and I have a high bar set for cover bands, I'm not a musical sped.

actually i just thought of another good tribute band, if you like grateful dead, dark star orchestra is the shit, if you ever get a chance to see them. they re-create shows from different dates every night they play. the lead singer and lead guitarist sounds dead on jerry, its creepy. even the rhythm player sounds dead on bo wier. definitely a good time.
