Why that set at the Gorge

Unread post by JonTheSpaceMan » Mon Sep 12, 2005 2:27 pm

I have the 2 cd 1 dvd set of the Gorge. Why did they pick a year that Daves voice was crapped out. Just listen to YNK and youll agree it is not in good health at the time...

So why pick that one. Why not do a 2001 or 2003 or any other one? If i was in a band having live cds made of us i would step out and say "you know what dont print that one i sound like shit."

I did a search and read reviews on the site and it seems many disagree. I love the the music but damn that voice.
Please help me...there are worshipers on my ass and chest.

They had been promising it for a long time... so they couldn't just cancel it's release.

And they didn't do a 2001 one because it would have sucked man organ.

I think they committed too much money to it ahead of time to just shelve it. Bottom line conquers all.

They had cameras all over that place, they did tons of documentary footage, just watch the DVD...which I'm sure you did.

Like it was already said, they promised this Gorge Box Set before the concert even occurred. They probably kicked themselves when they listened to the tapes.

It's a shame though. Some great stuff came out at those shows.

Dave had smoked so much grass in years prior that the wear and tear on his vocal chords was beginning to show. I heard that earlier that year he had to go to the hospital because his voicebox was so fucked up.

I'm glad they released the Gorge 02. Granted, Dave's voice was destroyed and sounded like shit, but the DVD is worth the $20 alone. Ants, Pig, Loving Wings, Seek Up, Halloween, Billies, its glorious.

also there was a very high demand for it. the fan support for releasing that cd was really really high.

really thouhg, minus cd 1 or the 6 is the only one that is hard to listen to. he compensates later on and realizes his limits.

and by night two, he was doing a bit better. and we got a massively good night 3 from that set. that is one of my favorite shows

hell yeah

I enjoyed the 2 CD's also...Fool to think, PNP-Rapunzel, TSTJL I thought were all strong, the Two step jam is a favorite of mine.

Warehouse sounded weak though

Yeah, back in March/April of 2002 Dave strained his vocal chords, or something like that.

My only regret about the Gorge DVD is that the band did not follow thru with using any of the fan based tapes they asked for. At one point they asked the fans to send in footage...not of the show itself, but of all the activities leading up to the weekend, activities during the weekend (and there are many!), and post weekend stuff. I thought it would have made an excellent DVD overall because the Gorge is not all about the shows, its the entire experience.
