who listens to dmb
who listens to dmb
...at your school/where you live.
at my school and well...everywhere else i've seen really it seems that the dave crowd has turned into frat boys. and i don't mean like your regular ok to hang out w/ frat boy, i'm talking pink shirt popped collar. when i went to the concert in charlotte, they were EVERYWHERE! i hardly saw a hippy which is what i thought was dave's fan base. i guess not anymore. i remember my first dave concert there were a lot of hippies and i smelled pot the entire time. this time it was beer and cologne.
my brother told me that it was changing a couple years ago and i didn't believe him. he told me that frat boys were getting into dmb and i dismissed it. but alas, he was right. so look around...who listens to dave in your area?

Randall's Island was flooded with the stereotypical frat boy. There were two logos I saw repeatedly all day, Hollister & American Eagle. Not dissing the clothes as I once wore them but they can certainly be identified with college kids.Appfro wrote:...at your school/where you live.

It was funny to see the ones who dressed in nice clothes, little did they know they would walk out of the venue looking as if they worked in a coal mine all day.

Any good band that sells millions of records and sells out stadiums will become popular due to the nature of the music biz. Look at Phish or DMB, the fanbases for each changed drastically over the years as each band became more popular for every Jonny Goes to State College.
Another BIG reason why I didn't got to any DMB shows for the first time in nearly 10 years.

i think you may have shot yourself in the foot on that one though. i was able to enjoy the show despite the drunken girl in front of me throwing beer all over everyone. the shows this tour have really been amazing. the people did suck that were there, but i'm 6'2", i just looked right over themc_tietze wrote:Any good band that sells millions of records and sells out stadiums will become popular due to the nature of the music biz. in my home area i'm the only person i know who listens to dmb, it's really weird. i'm the dave head of my social group. quick story, i was getting ready to go to see dave this summer(montage) and i was getting dressed, and i had on a pair of jeans and a navy blue polo shirt(collar down-of course) and i look in the mirror, and go, what the fuck am i wearing, everyone is going to be dressed like this. so i threw on a t-shirt, khaki shorts and clogs- and felt much better about myself at the show. for a long while dave was a way to avoid all the sterotypicalness- now you have to go out of your way to not be part of it at dave. ghar.
hosting the oscars is like winning the heisman trophy. no matter how you do in the ballgame, or whatever, they can't take it away from you. and even if you kill your wife and an ex-waiter, they still have a hard time taking it away from you

I wouldn't say shot in the foot, I reviewed the set lists, I've seen/hear most of the new stuff live and that coupled with the type of crowds I can expect, I made a decision based on those factors to skip it. I've seen DMB over 25 times and drove to C-Ville for the homecoming and was at Central Park, I can die knowing I've seen DMB more than the average music listener.Appfro wrote:i think you may have shot yourself in the foot on that one though. i was able to enjoy the show despite the drunken girl in front of me throwing beer all over everyone. the shows this tour have really been amazing. the people did suck that were there, but i'm 6'2", i just looked right over themc_tietze wrote:Any good band that sells millions of records and sells out stadiums will become popular due to the nature of the music biz. I'm glad you had fun though, the thing for me is I don't really enjoy it as much anymore, but if D&T came around I'd go in a heartbeat, and that's EVEN NOISIER! LOL!

i'm not in college yet, but pretty much me and my best friend are the only dave fans in my school. and then there are the girls that only know the popular songs by them like crash, two step, or everyday.
edit: also, at my dmb show i went to in mansfield, pretty much every other person was wearing popped collar, striped shirt, and a baseball cap.

Oh yeah, another thing too, I think I'm too selfish, like DMB is "my" band and should do what "I" want. It's tough not to feel that way when you grow up with their music in the background of your life, you almost feel like you know each other and they owe you or something, weird.

I used to feel that way becuase I started touring somehwat in the begininng of their career. I would take offense to almost anything people wore & how they acted at a show. I find it a pointless attitude to have anymore.c_tietze wrote:Oh yeah, another thing too, I think I'm too selfish, like DMB is "my" band and should do what "I" want. Everyone at my school "loves" DMB. Every single fucking frat boy, princess, sorority girl has that poster of Dave with the Chet and a cig behind his ear on their walls. Every single person puts DMB on their facebook. It's bad when you ask a girl what her favorite DMB song is, and she says Dreamgirl. Then I huddle in a corner and cry silently. I hate it.
But, its a catch-22, because I love sharing DMB's music with everyone, but at the same time, when EVERYONE has a warped conception of my favorite band, I wish they were a little more esoteric at times.
