Farm Aid!!

Unread post by stunnersal » Tue Jul 12, 2005 9:25 am

Farm Aid will celebrate its 20th anniversary by going back to its roots in the Chicago area with the announcement of the September 18 fund-raising concert by founders Willie Nelson and John Mellencamp in the Windy City.
The concert at the Tweeter Center in nearby Tinley Park, Ill., will again feature Farm Aid board members Nelson, Mellencamp, Dave Matthews and Neil Young and cap off a week of events promoting family farms. More artists will undoubtedly join the bill.
In addition to the annual concert, events slated during Farm Aid week include the County Fair at the Garfield Conservatory, a film festival, educational and restaurant events, as well as the release of Farm Aid's book, "Farm Aid: A Song For America." Organizers also hope to stage small-venue performances during the week.
The first Farm Aid concert was organized in 1985 after Bob Dylan famously remarked at that year's Live Aid concert that "a million or two" should go to farmers. Nelson and Mellencamp took up the challenge and did just that, with the first concert held in Champlain, Ill., another Chicago suburb.
Since then, Farm Aid has raised more than $27 million not only for relief efforts for struggling family farmers, but provides educational programs and direct grants to strengthen family farm food systems.
"It's good to be back in Illinois where it all started," Nelson said in announcing this year's event. "This state is showing how good food can connect places like Champaign and Chicago. ... I'm looking forward to playing on the Farm Aid stage, playing music with my friends."
Mellencamp added, "Farm Aid is always a great show, but even more important is that Farm Aid helps the consumer and the family farmer work together for the benefit of all of us."
Additional artists on the Farm Aid lineup will be announced shortly, and tickets go on sale July 30 at all Ticketmaster outlets.
Farm Aid will also offer advance pre-sale tickets to its FarmYard members. More information about FarmYard can be found at FarmAid.org.

hosting the oscars is like winning the heisman trophy. no matter how you do in the ballgame, or whatever, they can't take it away from you. and even if you kill your wife and an ex-waiter, they still have a hard time taking it away from you
