Most Important DMB CD
Most Important DMB CD
I believe Busted Stuff, after the release of Stand Up, is DMB's most important release.
Here's my theory...
UTTAD, Crash, BTCS, were the bands best material and established what the band was all about. Then everyday came out, brought new fans, but gave an overall uneasy impression with the DMB community. It was good but lacking, and overproduced. Busted Stuff then defined who the band was again. They wanted to make an album that was DMB as people knew it. It is a solid album with many elements of the "classic" dmb sound. Now that Stand Up came out and the band has fallen back into the overproduced pattern. No emotion in the songs and just missing what some people loved about the band.
Picture this, what if there was no Busted Stuff, went straight to Stand Up, OR busted stuff was a weak, over produced album with looping and such. That would be 3 consecutive weak albums. Would they be our favorite band if so?
Discuss. I am sure theres some good points for other albums but this is my opinion.

Busted Stuff really didnt save me from being a fan because I already had it (Lillywhite) but I see what you're saying. I still consider the releases being Everyday then Stand Up because Busted Stuff was old material. I'm still wondering what the next album will be like. Im not sure if I will stay a HUGE fan if the next album is as weak as ED and SU...........its so depressing

The most important album has got to be The Lillywhite Sessions. It was the last time this band really sounded there best. Amazing lyrics, inventive chords, just overall complex and interesting music. Ever since they canned those sessions the band that we all grew up with has gone missing. They haven't been the same. Busted Stuff was just a cop out to please the fans who were calling for the official release of the LWS. Its only purpose was to keep hardcore fans around long enough to trick us into thinking that maybe they were going to get back to what they used to sound like. And it worked on most people. I remember a lot of people saying before SU came out "Just remember You Never Know, they still have it in them to make classics..." Well guess what there isn't one classic on Stand Up, with the exception of Hello Again which doesn't really count since they wrote it well before they even got in the studio. All that being said I still believe they have it in them to make more amazing music. I really loved the summer '04 songs and they seemed headed in the right direction, but once again they divebombed into something totally different and have us all guessing once again what is next.

i think there most important album has to be Under the Table and Dreaming, and here is why. Before Remember Two Things, Dave Matthews Band was a live band grassroots phenomea. Once they released Remember Two Things they actually had an album. But for the most part, Remember Two Things was a live album. The reason I say Under The Table and Dreaming is their most important is because that if that(their first full studio attempt) bombed, who knows what direction they would have went in. With any of the other albums, they have a solid catalog of both live and studio albums. But if they bombed as a studio band, who knows what would have happened to them, since I doubt any record company would have wanted to chance it with a band who was great on tour yet horrible in the studio. Once Under the Table and Dreaming was released it made them "offical" in the eyes of fans who weren't there in the beginning, in the eyes of the music community(not other artists, but record execs etc) and allowed them to keep using the process of writing songs, testing them out on tour and then recording them. if that album(UTAD) bombed, I doubt that DMB would have the importance they have today.
(and yes, i went out of my way to write out the full names of everything, excet in the last two sentences.)

hosting the oscars is like winning the heisman trophy. no matter how you do in the ballgame, or whatever, they can't take it away from you. and even if you kill your wife and an ex-waiter, they still have a hard time taking it away from you

That's a good point Nitro, but I still won't ever understand why people hate Everyday and Stand Up. I love the Dave Matthews Band because they make incredible music. They are all wonderful musicians, so even if they change their style the music is still going to be great because they are all so creative.Nitro1515 wrote:The most important album has got to be The Lillywhite Sessions.
