Selling Tickets on eBay....

Unread post by billywestom » Sat Mar 22, 2003 1:25 am

I have noticed a problem in the different ticket selling rules. I am talking about the Warehouse policy and eBay's policy. The Warehouse says that you absolutely can't sell tickets for more than face value, which I might understand. Then, on the eBay website, they have some special rules for selling tickets. They have different regulations for different states. I noticed that for Washington, there is no restrictions, as they say that "we notice that there is a need for some to pay more than face value for tickets, as some have no other way..." or something. So has anyone sold tickets on eBay? I'm not saying that I am planning on selling the tickets that I hopefully get, but what rules would a person have to follow?

Any rules you want, but if I were you, I'd listen to WH and only sell for face value or you will get your membership canceled, and the tix wont be good for the buyer.

Actually, Warehouse ticketing has finally stepped into the E-Bay arena.

With the announcement of the D&T 2003 tour and the numerous amounts of tickets showing up on E-Bay for prices in excess of $1000, Warehouse created its own user name and joined the fray. So far what they seem to be doing is matching up the seat number on the auction with tickets that were distributed through Warehouse. If they find a match, they run the price up rediculously hight (for example $4000) so that it voids the auction by breaking state laws on ticket selling restrictins. Then, of course, they close out your Warehouse membership.

The really funny thing about this is that the people who were selling their Warehouse tickets on E-Bay were posting the auctions as soon as ticket confirmations had been made. The tickets had not yet been distributed and, what's more, had not even gone on sale to the general public yet. Of course in this situation Warehouse, by its ticketing policy, could simply refuse to distribute the tickets without even jumping through the E-Bay hoops. I believe these rescended tickets went back to ANOTHER Warehouse lottery where they randomly called members offering free ticket upgrades - a lot of members at nancies.org claimed they received one of these upgrades. Some auctioners got smart and started posting the tickets WITHOUT the seat locations but see if they get the same sick piles of cash for front row seats now.

So what does this mean for us? Warehouse has REALLY tightened up on its ticket distribution policy and effectively has put even more of a burden on the legitmate fans. It still remains to be seen whether or not they will continue to announce seat locations with initial ticket confirmations and they have seriously revised shipping methods. Have you wondered why for each concert on the Dave Matthews Band 2003 summer tour you are now paying $9.50 instead of $1 PER show? No, it's not price gouging that will go away after the war with Iraq. The new policy, in case you didn't get the e-mail, states that they will send the tickets via 2-day Fed-Ex service 10 days prior to the show so that you should receive the tickets 7 days prior to the show.

I know this is long but I'm glad that Warehouse is finally enforcing its rules on ticketing. It's not fair at all that people create numerous Warehouse accounts for the sake of re-selling tickets on E-Bay for profit. This really takes the tickets out of the hands of the true fans. I just wish there was a better way for Warehouse to go about this rather that passing the cost on to us and making it near impossible to trade or re-sell (at face value) tickets.

E-Bay and tickets are a dangerous thing. In the event you have tickets you need to get rid of, I stronly recommend you offer them for trade on message board such as Warehouse, Nancies, or even here at DMBTABS but ONLY ONLY at face value (which means you can include any convenience charges that were included if not from Warehouse).

Hope this helps clear everything up!

Kevin
