What's Dave doin???
I was watching the Gorge DVD and I was curious about what Dave is doing in one of the cut scenes. It's in the first part of the documentary after ants marching. Boyd is talking and then you see Dave scating on stage and then Dave is flailing his arms and legs in every direction while walking back to carter. DAVE WAS GOING CRAZY! I was curious what song this was because dave was going insane!
stuff

Are you talking about when they are playing Where are you going in the background and they show dave flailing in slow motion?
Lets do a little detective work.
on which songs does dave often stop playing his guitar midsong?
jimi thing
lie in our graves
seek up
Which guitar is he using?
taylor 6 string, so he can't be playing any of the busted or lillywhite tracks played on a twelve (grey street, JTR, Bartender)
If Stefan is visible, what kind of bass is he using?
(That often narrows it down if you know which bass's he uses on which songs)
He uses the five string on most of the songs on BTCS and Crash. He uses the four sting on most of the songs on UTTAD, and the fretless on WAYG and two step.
Those are the kinds of questions to ask to make an educated guess.
mine is jimi thing.

Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

Its all a matter of using process of elimination. Hell, I have a poster on the wall or my dorm room of dave playing a solo show. Using the same process, I can make a pretty good guess as to what song he is playing. First I look at the guitar he is playing. Yamaha Country Jumbo. Then I look at his fretting hand. It looks like he is playing stay at first glance, which is a good guess, given that he used the jumbo to record the song and to play it in the music video, but he stopped using the jumbo live back in 1993 and only used it in the studio and for music videos there after. And since the photo is obviously not from the studio (No headphones, wires, etc), that combined with the country jumbo, which means the concert was circa 1993, Which rules out stay. But then I think of all the other songs where his fretting hand makes that same configuration. I know because I can honestly say I've played all of dave's songs. To confirm the time period, I look at how much hair dave has. His receeding hairline really became noticeable in 1996 when he would cut his hear very short. Its hard to tell, but it does not look like he has lost that much in that poster. So it has to be circa 1993. Which means, pending the covers he played at the time, it has to be from UTTAD or R2T. A closer look at his hands reveals that he is playing an E5 power chord, which, from the period, is only found in Warehouse and Minarets. So he is playing either of those two.
Watson, I think I have found the clue!

Dave never plays an E5 power chord in PFWYG. If I can find that poster online I will post it.Kukini wrote:What about PFWYG?Davy28 wrote:Its all a matter of using process of elimination.
