Where would Dave be without the band?

Obviously Dave himself is talented, but without the band would he be as popular as he is? Or would he just be another Howie Day/Jason Mraz type?

probably a little bigger than howie day, probably about as famous/well known as tim. if something like some devil would have been a debut album, it would be the kind that generates a little buzz, maybe breaks the top 30. then slowly drops off into a second album no one buys. sending him back into anonimity (sp). but without the band he wouldnt be much... now if he had joined with tim full time, hed be just as big, IMO. but if things had gone thier current course but without the band hed be nothing.

I don't know, in my opinion, I think he would be one of those people who critics and hardcore fans would praise, but not many other people would know who he was.

That's kind of like it is for DMB now, I guess.. oh well.

^ ehhh, DMB is one of those bands with a hardcore audiance of diehard fans, and a hardcore group of poser fans. You know, the people who go to shows just because its cool, or buy a CD just so when someone looks at their CD collection they see some DMB.

I don't think Dave would have gone too far. Listening to his solo album, it's good, but not good enough to carry into the kind of success he has.

Besides, I think the style of the band on a whole is much different from Dave's independent style. They had a certain amount of jazz and funk to predominately folk songwriting.

Hell no. Nobody wants to listen to two acoustic guitars on the radio. It's just how pop is. I think without teh band he'd be a more mature mayer, but lesser known.

true, but sadly no one really wants to listen to DMB on the radio, DMB gets maybe 1 single to play awhile on the radio and MTV, and shit like good charolette, gets like 5 or more.

DMB is on the radio, not MTV, that's the difference. I hear DMB on the radio all the time here. SMTS, Grey Street, Ants, Crash, WWYS, TSB, IDI, Stay...the list goes on.

Dave would not be doing too well I think. He'd be just like john mayer, maybe a little better. but i don't think he would have a very large fan base. hell, i don't even know if i'd lik ehim if it weren't for the band. I love the Dave Matthews BAND.

And that whole thing about him going with Timmy, i don't think he owuld have gotten too far with that either. his music would be nowhere near the same I think....

the question would be dave who? but that don't mean he wouldn't be well off. no dout he would have got cds. he would be like elliott smith was in a since that once someone whispers his name to you and you listen you would be hooked for good, but he would never been mainstream as he is with the band for sure.

thanks,
dustin

it all depends, without the band i don't think dave would have been very confident (read step into the light)

he could barely talk to carter - took him a while to approach him

i think he'd be big in Cville, but not national
