what are dave's songs about

Unread post by max » Sun Jun 13, 2004 11:07 pm

I was just wondering what you all think Drive in Drive Out is about.

actually, I think there should be more "what's the song about" threads. like i've been wonderin about stone too. I think stone's obviously about guilt, but it's complicated. I'm really starting to dig both of them i think 'cause they're both in 6/8.

I guess I wouldn't mind knowing what dave has said about his songs, but I'm actually more interested in hearing what people think.

sometimes I just think dave must have been high when he writes things and it's not worth thinkin too hard about. . . .

oh yeah, and bad thread header, I know, but I didn't know what else to call it

lyrics, like any poetry, i think are more about what the individual reader thinks rather than what the writer may have intended (if there were any intentions)

i'm sure that's not an answer you're looking for, but it's valid nonetheless

"Dave has said that this song has no real direct motive or point, but, is a song for Carter to just go wild on the drums"

see now that just depresses the hell outta me. his lyrics are good, anyone would argue, but to hear that they have no point . . . .

and listen, i'm not saying that it takes away from the song and yeah i can interpret it any way i want to, but still, wouldn't it have been nice if there was a point in mind when he wrote it?

ah whatever, i'm still hooked on the song and I'd just like to say that Carter is God

It would seem to someone (me) that knows only a little about Dave and his background that his songs have a religious undertone to them. Not all of them but enough.

I like listening to music by people that think and don't just write sappy shit about their pet goldfish being eaten by their cat and how shitty that is. :)

It seems like some of the stuff carter does today blows DIDO away. YNK, live versions of two step, JTR, and Kit Kat Jam have such crazy time changes and go so much faster.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away
