The Dave Matthews Band is emphasizing the "band" part of its equation on the group's next album. "It literally was a collaborative effort from beginning to end," violinist Boyd Tinsley tells Billboard.com. "Every song was written by everybody at the same time -- we've never really done that before."

The new songs are still in such an unfinished form, however, that Tinsley isn't sure if any of them will be debuted during DMB's extensive summer tour, which begins May 30 in Burgettstown, Pa., and runs through Sept. 10 at New York's Madison Square Garden.

That article pretty much ruined any anticipation I had for this album. They in fact have written an album with that format, of having everyone write songs together and then having Dave fill in the lyrics. It was called Stand Up. *sigh*

The only difference it seems that they are actually taking the time to discuss the music a bit more. The clip of the studio they showed actually showed the band working together and talking their way through the songs, bringing all of their talents into it.

Stand Up consisted of Batson hearing a riff that Stephan played, or a warm-up by Boyd, and building a song around that. They were building songs around things the other band members made up.

Whether their working together or not on writing the music, if the basis of the song still revolves around what Dave is playing, then I see no problem with what's going on in the studio.
