I just listened to Some Devil and am so impressed by it that I felt that I had to post about it. First, anyone else like it? Personally, I was astonished at how great it is. Granted I didn't have too high expectations considering how terrible some artists get when they go solo. But this CD is just awesome... with Dodo, Some Devil, and So Damn Lucky the great gems of the disc.

Some have commented about how they don't like the electric and how it doesn't "flow" very well. I love the electric. Electric is good for Dave. This is how it should be done for the style that he writes, and seems like a very natural evolution in his style of music. Just listen to Some Devil. How can this beautiful song be arranged any other way? And at the very least it's nowhere near the dissapointment that Everyday was (and the worst way to write write electric). Ugh. The thing that pleased me the most was the strings. In some places the use of orchestral stuff was a little forced, but I loved the use of strings and violins. We need more of that(at least I do)! More artists could benefit by expanding their musical "palettes" (and I don't just mean dabble here and there for variety's sake) the way that some of the greats have (ahem Beatles ahem).

Oh, and BTW, didn't like Gravedigger. Am I the only one? Anyways. Just a few thoughts.

heh. some devil grows a little repetitive, but i do like how it's raw. i think dave's just naturally suited to the acoustic though, but his limitations with the guitar are becoming a little more evident which may be why he's trying out different sounds to accomodate for such things.

the strings were fairly effective, but sometimes overused. i loved 'em on stay or leave, though. just felt like a song that needed them, and i don't think boyd's single violin would have worked well there.

and the only reason why i don't like gravedigger is because 1) sometimes it gets too depressing and 2) i've just heard it way too damn much.

but the electric fits the video so well, and i dig the video a lot. better than a lot of shit out there.

some devil the song is kinda cool for the first minute and 30 seconds, then it gets really, really old...and no, dave should never touch an electric again...no good ever comes from it...he lacks the touch...it just doesn't fit in with any of his other strenghs...and mind you all, I spoke of good and bad aspects of this album and spoke of a positive future, without the now incredibly stale band...if that offends you then that's just ridiculous...

That album was not horrible, not great. somewhere in between. but i agree with elliot. the song some devil got old very fast. for me it was even before that minute and 30 seconds.

Shame on you for thinking that the band is gonna break up.. on the interview on the Today Show, Dave said the worst thing he fears is the band breaking up. Even Boyd spoke up and said that he doesn't plan on leaving. Leroi and Stefan didn't say anything, but they usually don't. Carter said, "hell no"

I thought it was funny in a way that after i listened to the cd and thought there were some songs that sounded good with the electric in em and vice versa, i looked in the booklet and noticed that the songs i liked on electric were by either timmy or trey and the ones that i didnt care for as much had dave playin the electric

i don't see what is so bad about the band breaking up, they have given us years of their time, and not to mention 12 or 13 cds to listen to... i feel like they have accomplished enough that if they did break up i wouldn't feel terrible

i like all the songs besides Trouble Grey Blue Eyes An' Another Thing. i think dave lryicly rocked on this album but as for guitar it was not his greatest but i feel like this album was not post to be about rock your socks guitar playing heh
