If Lanois, or any other producer of the like, would have produced this album, "American Baby Intro" would have been the full, beautiful song it probably was before it was cut down to what it is now, with more than about 10 seconds of vocals.
you mean all four chords of it?
I mean that from the sounds of the part where Dave's vocals come in, this could have been a complete song, that they just chopped down to what it is on the CD. I think from what we were given on the CD, the entire song, if it was one to start, would have been great.
Well, now that Dave is playing it on tour without Batson being there...and it is exactly the same, you are wrong.
I do think this was a full song that was chopped down to this short intro. The fact that they're playing it live that way means nothing. They turned Don't Burn The Pig into Pig. Doesn't mean that Don't Burn The Pig wasn't a song.

But Dont burnt he pig came before it was fully made into a song in the studio. If the ABI was in fact a full song in the studio(where it was created) it does not make sense that they wouldnt play the full song and instead play the 4 chords and sing the one line.

Your point is well made. I suppose it just bugs me when artists get too preachy. Just the song names everybody wake up and stand up bug me. And I still think it's lame to blame Batson, he may have contributed the hip-hopish stuff but the band still went with it.
yeah the lyrics are almost always all dave (dreaming tree partly stefan? and hftgl stefan wanted it to be dirty)...

what are the songs about south african politics? i know 36 has chris hani...what else?
Trippin' Billies in part name if not spirit ... 41police ... Some of the others named.

this is like the thread from heaven. lol. I'm sorry nothing against the guy... (ok maybe I really don't mean that)... but he should stay to producing rap and whatever and keep the hell out of anything thats not pop or talks about drugs/killing/women over and over again.

i wish they would have dropped him Stand Up could have been better.

ive never understood why bands dont just get someone to produce it the way they want it. i mean, i obviously dont know for sure that dmb didnt want this album this way...but why not, if youre a band of dmb stature, just say "we want joe blow to produce this cd the way we want to make it"?

well in the DVD for SU if u got it dave said a few times when talking about the album how they were trying new things and whatever else and the band thought that was cool...

well, you win some you lose some.

P.S. I don't know if those were Dave's exact words but it was long those lines

yeah i have the dvd...and i thought it looked as if it was mark batson essentially creating the agenda for the day, chosing what would be a song, etc...seems to me like dave carter stefan leroi boyd and butch should chose which are songs and then tell him what they want it to sound like....

i mean i know producers are suppose to influence the album, but i dunno...
