what would you say and ants marching, especially ants marching are straight up pop songs, a lot of dave's stuff is, I think people often think having a saxophone and violin in the band doesn't disqualify them from being categorized as pop

Pop is merely an abbreviation of popular. Technically, the popular music of the day is Pop music. I generally consider pop music to be anything with widespread appeal.

The pop music of today is really Candy Pop (or that's what I've generally seen it referred to as).

Ahh, then i totally agree with digger's statement, thats the reason all my friends totally loved the song when the first heard it. I was listening to Red Rocks and the drum beats at the beginning got them going then the short scale dave does, and violin parts all made them love the song.
So, in short, i understand what you meant now, and i agree digger.

John owns Dave on guitar, but I'd listen to Clapton, Sting, or James Taylor over them anyday.

gotta say I love listening to Sting, James Taylor, and Clapton as well. very much I might add. true musicians. and yeah DMB is pop but they actually play instruments very well and write music very well which is different than the real hardcore pop music that's on the radio all day, everyday. I dunno, music is pretty weird. technology has changed music over the years. but um...I can't really think very well tonight so I'll leave it at that

radiohead makes good use of the technology though. tired of stereotypical pop acts who "digitize" their voices cuz it's "cool" and "hip."
