that sucks as a comment. i listen to a lot of bands who have changed their sound (MUCH more drastically than dmb has) over the years. the change is not the problem. it's that the change wasn't good.

A band changing/evolving = good

DMB's evolution from BTCS ---> Stand Up = bad

wow mitch. i mean seriously. when did you get so assholish and defensive. it's not like i knocked on their door and put my finger in their face. it seems you've only read one statement of mine and none of the rest (which is the story of my dmbtabs career) so you decided to pick it apart and forget about everything else i've said in here.

that really is a horrible statement. paraphrase...if you don't like what's happened, then change your opinion...rediculous. i'm not sure why people who do like the album have decided to see us who don't as whiny bitches but it's a reoccuring theme in this thread and the other. we don't like it, we're allowed to express our opinion...you get over it.

if i work in a factory and i'm suppose to make 10 products a day and i only make 9 one day, someone might say "it's not that bad in comparison." the next day i make 8. if they compare that to the 9 that i made yesterday they may say "it's not that bad in comparison" but if they compare it to the 10 they they might say "uh oh, i think he's slipping."

you guys are comparing the new album to "where the band has gone" (busted stuff NOT LW sessions and everyday) i'm comparing them to their 10...BTCS, Crash, UTTAD. forgive me for thinking that they're slipping a bit. i'm not going to change my opinon of music for any band. and like i told mike, if i give up hope for dave making better music, then i might as well not even pick up the next album.

so in short...spare me your "everyone who hates the album is a whiny bitch" speach...it's been done in here already.

Nice analogy there American Mitch. I totally agree with what your saying.

The abundance of threads derived solely on the mediocracy of this album astounds me. Who cares people.... It's extremely simple, don't listen to the studio album & wait and see what direction Batson takes them in on the next album.

The songs are good live.

When was the last time you listened to a Grateful dead or Phish studio album? We all know they are better live, just as DMB is.

Chill people.

it is a very good point.
hosting the oscars is like winning the heisman trophy. no matter how you do in the ballgame, or whatever, they can't take it away from you. and even if you kill your wife and an ex-waiter, they still have a hard time taking it away from you

Agreed, however the Dead usually toured for the fuck of it and Phish and DMB tour and often tour in support of new album releases (well, Phish DID). I can't really compare the voluminous song catalog of the Dead to DMB's current set list consisting of 80% SU songs and a couple of old school favorites.

This new album and tour for me is not my thing, that's all. I'm not losing sleep over this fact.

You're looking too hard into my post. I guess I should have said the obvious, DMB is a live band. :)

I agree with you, their live interpretations are usually better than the studio counterparts. However, SU is lyrically dissapointing and lyrics like "I'd dig a hole to china...." are bad regardless of what the medium is.

the Dead toured because, they turned them selves basically into a gigantic business with tons of employees, who relied heavily on the band. they had to keep touring to support these people. they didnt have much of a choice.

No they aren't. They made 4 great studio albums and were on the verge of making a 5th. Just because they are so great live doesn't mean they can cash it in, in the studio. They have the ability to make great studio albums, and it sucks that they don't seem to care about studio work as much as they used to.
