i think that says it all, they just dont want to write another crash or BTCS.
I love DMB, and I can definitely sense the changes between albums, but I would consider them one of the least diverse a/o experimental bands I listen to.

i wonder...are there and radiohead fans here who DON'T like Stand Up?

this kinda reminds me of when Kid A came out, even though this isn't nearly as drastic. half the fans were heartbroken, and the other half loved it.
I like Kid A. And I consider Amnesiac to be the most drastic Radiohead change.

With that said- Stand Up is a shitty, shitty song. Just bad songwriting. And I dig the AB intro aside from the guns and shit- that's corny as hell.

American Baby took me two listens to to decide I dig the majority of it.

Dreamgirl? Well, the first ten seconds or so are good. The rest is just bad songwriting.

I'll critique the remainder after I listen to 'em a few times.

EDIT: I like Carter's drumming, by the way. But I'm a big fan of hip-hop and overlapped drum loops, as I use it a lot in my music, so it's all good to me.

I'm also really, really disappointed Crazy-Easy isn't on this. Glad Hello Again is.
Stay with me, safe and ignorant.

IMO, It just doesn't do it for me. I do believe I would think better of it if it was not the last song. You just don't end albums with songs so blatently about oral sex and cunnillingus if you are a band like DMB. I think Lousiana Bayou should have been the last song. It would have ended the album with a much more powerful and live feeling.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

Although I'm not a big fan of what the Band has done in this album, quit frankly i found almost every song quite uninspiring, I cant wait to see what dave will do with tim or butch in a duo setup, that is when dave really shines. I can name you a few songs from his older albums that I do not like anywhere near as much on the studio album as I do on the live acoustic set.

Interestingly enough the only song I don't have utter disdain for is American Baby. They really alienated their fanbase with this one. I wasn't even expecting much and I was still disappointed.
I think they got seriously lazy with this album. That's why they enjoyed the process so much because it didn't cost them an ounce of blood, sweat, or tears. That's not the DMB I know.
I've missed Lillywhite exponentially after every album since LWS. I didn't think they could choose a shittier producer than
Steve Harris, guess I was wrong.

Thats pretty much how I feel. I can't even listen to it anymore to tell you the truth. It all comes back to the producer. They need somebody who will push them, not like these last 3 who has just been in awe and thanking god that they have got the chance to work with such a talented band (I mean Batson was actually praising Carters ability to always be on the "1", that should give us a little insight into the pieces of garbage he was working with before). I just hope one day they get back with Lillywhite because he never produced anything in the studio that I didn't like.

The album has dropped a few spots on my list of things i want to listen too. I'll still be listening to smooth rider, hello again, louisiana bayou for a while, but it's not going to be Stand Up on repeat for weeks like other albums were.

IM not really digging the slow songs on this album. That is usually Dave's strong point - He knows how to make a great love song, but Im not hearing it on this album.

I agree, Stolen Away is the best example of this, I keep expecting it to go to some beautiful chorus or bridge but it just drags on for 4 minutes of the same melody.

That is the only song that could have had potential. But, no.
