3. the "everybody wake up" song whatever it's called is my new most hated song of all time. it ranks right up there w/ sleep to dream her.
4. old dirt hill or whatever it's called is an awesome song.

those are my thoughts.
Dave's voice is so much better on Some Devil then this album, but the scratchiness of Dave's voice on this album gives it a human quality that enhances the simplicity of certain songs.

I know nobody on this site will agree with me, but I actually like Steve Harris's production. There are upsides and downsides to harris, just as there were upsides and downsides to lillywhite. But they both blow Batson out of the water.
it seems too depressed to me. i miss the happy or pissed off screaming dave.
i agree, it needs more passion

i've had the cd now for 3 days...i'll be honest, i'm not a big fan of it thus far....for lack of better term, i can't stand, 'stand up' ...that song drives a stake through my ears when i here it...some of the songs are enjoyable...i haven't listened to them all yet..i listen in increments...i've gotten up to the first 8 songs.. i'm hoping it finishes off real strong

Alright I listened to the whole cd all the way through sitting in my room nice and quiet on headphones yesterday. I thought it was alright, some of the songs were decent. Now today I sit here listening to the songs I thought were the best from yesterday, and they sound okkkk. After about 30 minutes of stand up I go listen to BTCS and a little UTTAD.

omg stand up is a piece of shit... uninspired repeat lyrics, piss poor guitar riffs on most of the songs, to much drums-and fake ass drums at that, unpassionate vocals, sloppy producing, nearly every song sounds like a fake pop/hip hop song

I thought american baby was a decent song before the album came out, but now that I hear the skip from a loop 3 seconds into the song I can't stand it. I thought it was just a glitch from the .mp3 I downloaded before the cd came out.

out of my hands was the only song that sounds like dave cared about...and notice how it says "a home recording" in the book (not done by that son of a bitch batson with his name all over the damn album)

If anyone here dissagrees with me, listen to about 30 minutes of stand up then go straight to some good dmb studio work...UTTAD and BTCS or crash

hopefully DMB will be able to save these songs in live form...but its hard seeing it happen

-my rant
thank you

i felt the exact same way at first. keep listening to it, its the essence of an album that grows on you. i dont know why. the first time i listened to it i was like this is awful, absolutely awful. after about the 3rd listen i compared to UTTAD like you did and said wow this is shit. after hearing it about 10 to 12 times through i really like the album. i understand where you are coming from though for sure. :D

i dont understand why so many people act like DMB was the victim of mark batson. they chose him. they wanted this.

lol...oh well. i like the album. thank god for a new direction.

i wonder...are there and radiohead fans here who DON'T like Stand Up?

this kinda reminds me of when Kid A came out, even though this isn't nearly as drastic. half the fans were heartbroken, and the other half loved it.

My brother and I are big on RH, but my brother's not so big on DMB. However, he loves a lot of Stand Up, but has trouble getting past Carter's use of the snair (to him, sounds like a spike being driven through your head on a couple songs) Regardless of that though, he appreciates the new direction and appreciates their willingness to branch out and have some balls. As for me, Jay, I've written in some threads with the same thought, so I know what you mean. With Kid A, RH fans were like, "what the fuck is this techno garbage?! Where the hell Phil (the drummer)?!" and DMB fans are now like, "what the fuck is this hip hop shit? Where's Carter?!" When Kid A came out I hated the thing because I was so into how RH had perfected their alternative/art-rock sound. Now however, I've realized why Kid A is such a brilliant album. Best. Radiohead. CD. Evaaaaarrrrrrr! Stand Up isn't the best DMB CD imho, but it makes me happy that the band is wanting to take risks and find other ways of being creative. Like I said, this isn't their best work, but it's an indication that good things are to come. Like you said Jay, we haven't seen the best from this band yet. I thought things were getting stale with BS (which is a very good album mind you), but this album...wow. It has an addicting quality to it, I don't know quite what it is. To all you who are assuming I'm a fan who's listening to SU over and over again to convince myself it's good...fuck you. It's perfectly ok to dislike it, and most of the reasons that some of you have are very valid. But fuck it, I LOVE Stand Up.

people act like dmb can't do anything that the person thinks sucks, so who cares what people think..

and people, stfu over the drums for fuck sake. I bet you 100 dollars that during tour, you'll all be loving these songs because dmb isn't a studio band, they do their thing live.

No way man, the looped drums and lack of creativety from the best mainstream drummer is simply horrible.

Over produced, looped, NO PASSION, shallow meaningless lyrics, lack of solos, no jams

YMDT - potentionally the best song, but holy fuck that techno remix breakdown is fucking rediculous, sounds like the beat to EVERY pop song.

Louisanna Bayou - Listen to that chorus...worst singing I heard from dave.

Other songs are ok, album is good in as a whole, but the worst from DMB, no intensity, just attempts at catchy-ness...lack of human input musically

Just wondering if anybody else has yet to receive the CD from the preorder thing. I realize they have 7-10 business days to get it to me (so I'm not complaining), but I was wondering if I'm the only person in this boat or if there are other people out ther that still don't have the CD that preordered it.
