If this album blows, the next one will be that much better.
Don't count on it,
they plan to continue working with Batson so if you don't like this one chances are your not going to like the next one.
WHATT???
Its true, Matt from antsmarching who went to the first listening party in VA was told by Bruce Flohr and others that they plan to continue working with Batson.
That could all change with fan response/sales of the album though.
damn, i shouldn't have bought it; to support the band.
Yeah same here, I just wasted $25 on the warehouse bonus disc.

I also don't like the "hooks" in this album. Stand Up and Bring That Beat Back don't need to be repeated like 3,297 times throughout the songs. I know most songs have a verse/chrous/bridge structure, but these just annoy me. I love the riff in Stand Up, but the repetitveness of the song I can't get over. I'm really trying to like this album or make the best of it, but there's something I can't get over about it. Maybe it was overproduced? I don't know. I appreciate them trying new things and branching out but these is almost too much a departure.
if you watch the dvd side, they talk about how he's a hip hop producer, so he's used to taking 4 bars of a song and sampling it over and over. It's just the way that he produces albums, they knew that when they signed him up. They probably also knew he'd use fake drums. This is why I knew I wouldn't like this album.

i dont like this cd at all
its lacking...the songs are uninteresting to listen to and with the exception of Hello Again, i feel that hearing any of these live would be a waste of a slot. id much rather hear the same old version of two stop that kanter mentioned theyve been playing since 98..
its like batson took everything that was fresh and exciting about the dmb sound and eliminated it, replacing it with the most poppy, radio-savy stuff he could find...
that is all my opinion

I love how this community of people who actually play music can see this album for what it really is, a half-assed attempt to be inventive and different. Every other messageboard you go to you have people kissing the band and Batson's ass. Talking about how he evolved their sound and how cool and different it is...give me a break.

Wait until you get to Stolen Away, Carter doesnt change the tempo for 4 straight minutes and the song never shifts to a chorus.

real quick, lyrically how does "bring that beat back" fit in with the theme of the ODH?

Black producer wanting it to be hip-hopish. Yes that was racist and stereotypical, but it was meant in jest.

I think he is talking about wanting to go back to when he was a kid, so the "beat" I guess is a metaphor for childhood or the feelings of childhood.

From what I get is "bring that beat back" means "bring that feeling back". I when I here that song I just think of it as a John Mayer 83-type song. Kinda reflective.

I hate the lyrics "Ride my bike down that old dirt hill. First time without my training wheels." That's awful.

These from Steady As We Go kill me,
"I walk halfway around the world
just to sit down by your side
I would do most anything girl to be the apple of your eye." Come on Dave, your better than this.
