I just think there is no pleasing you guys. Last year they brought out #34 but y'all bitched about SU songs. This year they debuted 3-4 new songs and your bitching that they aren't creative enough.

Yes it is asking a lot considering all those old songs must be rehearsed for hours on end to make sure they still know them. Do you think every band remebers how to play every song they have ever writtten? NO!littlefriend420 wrote:Do I think that we should get creative control over the band? Jeez. Asking the band to play something other than the same songs they've been playing for the last 2 years isn't asking for creative control. It's asking for some creativity from the damn band. I'm not saying they should never play these songs. I'm glad they like the material, they should. But, yes, actually, they do owe the fans something. It's the fans that allow the band the opportunity to play music as a career. Is asking for a couple or 3 or 5 songs for one tour really that much of a demand? They have 20 slots a night to play songs that they like, a dozen or 2 dozen slots a SUMMER isn't asking a whole lot. For Christ's sake SUPRISE me! I don't think that's asking too much.RunsWithBuffalo wrote:Seriously, well put. This band does not owe us anything. We are not ENTITLED to anything. It's like getting a christmas gift and then bitching because it is not the exact one you wanted. Just be glad that this band still exists and is there to play FOR YOU...... and by the way, if any of you actually work for a living, if you get a couple of days off do you practice you profession? If so than you need to unplug a little. I only get upset about this because this "new generation" of followers are generally extremely greedy and self-centered. Although you paid for a concert ticket, it is still a gift to be a part of any DMB experience. Deal with what you are given, cause it ain't going to last forever.
I think most of the bitching is a result of people devoting all their energies into one band. If you do that, you are seeking all your fullfillment from one place and frankly that is always going to disappoint you.
For those that would argue that it is WE who made the dave matthews band famous and all the money they got is a result of our support, do you also argue that you should have some creative control over the band? Absolutely not. If this were true, many of the songs and concerts you have been to would not ever have happened. It is hard to get two fans to agree to anything let alone millions.
For purity's sake, lets leave the decisions to the band and accept what they give us, for better or worse.
So its not enough that you get varied set lists, 2.5+ hour concerts, liberal taping policies, nationwide tours just about every year if not twice a year, lots of studio releases, multiple live releases of very high quality, reasonably priced concert tickets, oh and did i mention some great music too?
To say its rough being a dave matthews band fan is seriously just spoiled

From Stefan:
Whats Up? Okay, I have to kill this rumor, Halloween was nowhere on the set, and that was not what Dave and Carter were mouthing to each other before crazy guy lurked on the stage. We were planning on Last Stop, and as much as we love this song and thought it would be cool playing this song at the end of the last show, that guy freaked us all out pretty bad so we played Stay and got off the stage quick. Some one told me that they heard him screaming, Look at what they are doing to your son, Father! as he was getting hauled away by the police. WHEW!
One note to people who send me messages, I would never make public anything that is sent via my message box, I only wrote a blog about the disgruntle fan because he told me that he posted the same thing basically on antsmarching.org and said on the thread that he was sending me a message on my myspace page. He made himself public before I was ever involved. I only brought it up because a bunch of people where sending me messages and it seemed to be the topic of the moment. That being said, I will stay away from challenging fans that put up public threads that challenge us. It was probably in bad taste for me to do so. I would much rather spend that extra time writing music in odd time signatures and grooves that make me feel like dancing, loving, and jumping.
I receive both negative and positive messages through this site daily and respect everything and every opinion that is brought to me. I learn from my fans everyday and have taken every critical comment as a way to improve in areas that I might need improving.
I go to the West Coast to see my girls at last. Ive had a bunch of stuff to take care of before I could leave VA. I am crazy excited about going home. My wife and I are going to see our buddies in Godsmack play in Irvine this Saturday. She wants to see some fireworks and they do a pretty good job with that.
P.S. I just read the comment on my page by Jared, I think it was big of him to try to explain his feelings and why he felt the way he did so publicly,I'm sorry if he left our show feeling let down

I think it's kind of funny that a lot of people automatically assume rare song = good songs. In dmb's case, yeah, most of the rare tunes are interesting, unique and awesome. But, if an average song was rare (for argument's sake, let's say Space Between was only ever played 5 times and never recorded) people would be begging for it in my opinion. The band obviously has reasons for not playing rare tunes, there's some kind of mystique that araises when you hear less common songs, if Halloween was played every night we would be sick of hearing dave scream. A honorable fan must either respect or disrespect decisions of the band but should never complain. If you are wanting to turn the band into something they are not (i.e. demanding songs they dont want to play) then you're not a fan of the band and what they are all about, because you want something different. Think of the number of songs RCHP have, TONS! Yet, as previously mentioned, they have very little variations in the setlists. DMB's variations on setlists is well beyond a vast majority of bands out there.
Sad to see that in the last few years (with the help of a weak release; SU) the die hard fanbase is depleting and becoming whiny bitches demanding so much more from a band that has already given so much. The band is on the declining stage of their musicial climax, that seems apparent (but who knows, the next album could surprise and reenergize us). Lets not make things ugly for the band's fall from their prime, if its the case, by complaining and being disrespectful. You may say that fans have given so much to the band, however. What have have you given them? money? Fuck money. That implies that dmb does this for the money, not the music. If anything, fans should have learned by now that is not the band's attitude at all. That angry fan should not be so selfish to expect them to play a few rare tunes on his show.
Thanks to anyone who read all of this.

dont go then. i'd rather sit at a show with a bunch of girls cheering for crash and people yelling for #41 then a bunch of self centered idealists that are going to sit there with crossed arms bitching about how stand up sucks and how they were so much better in 2000*.
*which ironically is usually 3-4 years before ehteir first show.
good ridance.
