While its true that road testing a song doesn't always make it better, it will still give the new songs plenty of time to develop. I've read posts where people say they like the way some of the Stand Up songs have developed (say, American Baby ala Storytellers style), and if its any improvement at all, then its still a good thing.
Plus, if you go to the concerts, you might find out whether the next cd has any decent songs on it.

Okay, I see what you're saying. I apologize. I wasn't trying to be argumentative, I was trying to clarify. You're saying a song can only be considered road-tested if the song then appears on an album. But I thought that all the new songs from the '04 tour could be considered road-tested, whether or not they made the album cut. The way you worded it in this last post finally made sense to me. I just missed the direction you were coming from.bassman462 wrote:well its pretty simple logic. i mean there's no rules to road testing but. that would mean like ok say that they wrote good good time, grey street, what you are, and stand up before they did btcs. and they didnt play any of the songs on btcs before then, it was a completely new batch of songs then those new songs that played. can you say that they road tested for btcs. no because it was all new songs then previously. only one song from 04 made it onto the stand up album. therefor i guess you can say 1/14 of stand up was road tested. compared to there other albums that isn't anything. and why are you being so fucking arguementative over something that's really simple seriously.littlefriend420 wrote:What? Says who?bassman462 wrote:if the songs weren't on the album then it doesn't count.littlefriend420 wrote:And Good Good Time, and Crazy-Easy, and Joyride, and Sugar Will...bassman462 wrote:um they did NO road testing with the last album. except like hello again.littlefriend420 wrote:NJPearce22 wrote:ghillie wrote:Yay for road testingAll we're trying to do is write good songs and hopefully feel good enough to play them all summer before going into the studio againin the fall. That's when the real sessions start, when we go after our best for the sake of the albumA lot of fucking good it did for the last album...
Or were none of those songs considered for Stand Up? Does playing new songs for an entire tour before recording an album not qualify as road testing?

I agree that playing them live on tour before studio time is 100x better. Why? Look at even some SU tunes. They developed different groove sections and the band fine tuned them. They made them more interesting. So the more times they play them, obviously, the better they will be one way or another.

except smooth rider. the fact dave tried to make a 2 minute song into a 6 minute song bugged. it was just repeated stuff over and over and over again.Coldchillin wrote:I agree that playing them live on tour before studio time is 100x better.
