Yeah, I don't think DMB has 'sold out' so to speak. I definitely agree that they are having some creativity problems - I thought SU was a terrible album, not even a terrible Dave album, just a bad album by any standards. I wonder now why they don't go underground for a few years instead of rushing stuff out... as a fan of the band I'd rather see them disappear for several years, have some life experiences, write about it, and come back and make another great album than to have a new Dave album coming out every year that sucks.aj1pso wrote:Am I the only one who likes I did it?![]()
I dont think everyday was that bad at all and even stand up has its moments. The band has not sold out. What the fuck man? Are you serious? Does it really sound to you like they've sold out? Put on MTV and tell me they're doing it to bring in more cash.
The thing is, the band has had some bad times creatively speaking. The first albums were so great that the new ones just leave us wanting for more. They cant all be great. At first the band had years of experience and slow buildup to those songs. Now they've used the built up material and are forced to make new stuff without going underground for 5 years. Its not that easy.
Doesnt mean they've sold out, come on!
I still love DMB and it would take a whole lot of fuckups to change that.
Take TOOL for instance, they are one of my favorite bands and they release an album roughly every three or more years - they take time with their stuff and don't force themselves to come out with new albums all the time.

I am inclined to agree with you except for the fact that Everyday was the last new material we heard from them. Busted Stuff was pretty much all material they had already from the Lillywhite Sessions. They had a TON of time to write new stuff, but instead went into the studio, didn't want to be pressured, and finished as fast as they could.waffle_house_jam wrote:Yeah, I don't think DMB has 'sold out' so to speak. ok i really really like everday, and dont see how you can compare that to nsync and and backstreet boys. oh ya and the fact they put themselves on the cover is a big point, what about the white album, that shit got nothing on it. i think people look to much at the album art nowadays. but everyday is a good album compared to alot of things, they did shorten the songs, but doesnt make the songs suck, there's hardly any long beatles songs. stand up also wasn't a marketing scheme either, they talk about how they felt they wanted to do something else, and they liked there work, and had fun. also i think dave still has alot of credibility of talking about music because of what he said in trey and dave go to africa, i try to get people to watch that so much because of the musical and cultural things that get talkin about on there.
