Ok, for starters, it's CONSUMATE v's, Shane, CONSUMATE!! You wouldn't know majesty if it came up and bit you in the face...
In terms of the alcohol/beer/college/party thing, I'm at Davidson College, and very much enjoy alcohol. However, I don't drink regularly, and I can't stand going to parties where everyone's just smashed and stupefied. I'll drink when I'm back home in Latin America with my family. If ever I want a beer, I can just grab one from the fridge. Or if I want something a little harder, like a gin and tonic or some vodka, that's cool too. I grew up around alcohol. My parents are by no means alcoholics. They are VERY responsible, and they exposed me and my siblings to alcohol right off the bat. They never tried to hide it from us, and it was not at all uncommon to see Dad go for a beer once he got home from work or for them both to have some wine with dinner. As I've grown up this way, there's never really been a huge taboo surrounding alcohol, and I don't have to worry about going to excess because I know what my limits are and I know how to be responsible. I first started having alcohol with my family when I was like 15, and every once in a while I'd get a glass of wine with dinner. My parents encouraged me to go to my first bar when I was 16, almost 17. It was an after-show party for the production of Grease that my highschool had just finished, and all the kids were going out. My parents said go ahead, be responsible, we trust you. Once I was 18, I could do whatever I wanted with alcohol, at least while I was in Latin America as that's the legal drinking age. Now that I'm back in the States at college, (I'm 19 now) while I've never discussed it with my parents, I know that they are fine with whatever choices I make regarding alcohol as long as I am responsible. I've been around alcohol ever since I was a kid, and first started drinking very infrequently at 15, and once I was 17/18 I basically had free reign to do whatever I wanted. And in all that time I've never been drunk, never done anything stupid with alcohol.
Beer is great stuff, as long as it's good beer. Bad beer just sucks. The same is true for any alcoholic beverage, and I'm not going to drink it if it's crap.

Fuck frat parties, most of them are really gay unless you belong, we throw our own parties. And yes, it does get expensive.Jay wrote:i dont drink and part every weekend....like anything else, i think it would get boring...plus it gets expensive. at my school there are no huge frat parties, so you gotta go to bars, which costs too much. but, i have fun with my friends, not with alchohol. drinking is just something we do.

i also kinda have a biased against alco. i think it started w/ being a "good kid" and not having any crazy fun in high school. but then, a friend of mine's birthday is the day before daves so we decided to have a little to drink for the two of them (my friend and dave). my brother, me and this guy drank so much jim beam all night (bourbon--from storytellers) and got SOOOOO sick. i dont drink too often but it is something that is fun here and there. also, beer is bad. i know im a noob to alcohol cuz it still tastes bad to me but yikes its bad. and im spent.
