Also, if they just did a request thing. I've seen that done with John Fogerty, Garth Brooks, and some other artists. People in the audience, as well as people calling in, request songs and they are played.
But with a band like DMB, you'd have someone request Mother's Night or The Penis Song or something. Could make for an interesting show.
DMB on Storytellers?!
Andrew
well i know the the goo goo dolls did one too.. and i think counting crowsguitardmb wrote:Why don't they ever reair storytellers? I have only seen three. Green Day, Bruce Springsteen, and Dave and Tim. I know they lost the Dave and Tim footage but there has to be more than just three Storytellers. Why don't they ever have reruns of them? That would be a better show to air than Strange Love and The Surreal Life.

Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead

It seemed like it was more of an analysis of his songs, rather than a performance (which is what I think both he and VH1 were going for). There's plenty of Bruce Springsteen live performances out there, it was really cool to hear him going over some of his songs line by line and telling what he meant and felt when he was writing it. A really cool thing that he said about one song (Brilliant Disguise I think, not positive) was that when you write a song, it takes on a meaning for you at that time. But then, when you record it and perform it, the song takes on new meaning, words mean different things to you, you perform it with different people and it gathers new memories along with it. I thought that was cool, because people try to analyze lyrics so much (I've seen it on these boards quite a bit) but most of the time if you asked the person who wrote the song, even they couldn't tell you what it's about.guitardmb wrote:Did anyone watch Bruce Springsteen storytellers? Vh1 screwed it up so much. He would be in the middle of a song and they would cut to a story and then cut back to the song. I was so disappointed.
I love this show and I'm so glad they seem to be putting it back on the air regularly. They have so many great old episodes that they should put back on the air: Billy Joel, Tom Waits, Tom Petty, John Mellencamp, Train/Fuel, Matchbox 20, Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds, etc.
Thos would have been sweet, I dont get MTV but have seen the Dave and Tim one, and another one i cant remeberBatstone wrote:well i know the the goo goo dolls did one too.. and i think counting crowsguitardmb wrote:Why don't they ever reair storytellers?
