I'm gonna hold off comment until I hear the album and songs in their entirety. I can't really tell from this stuff.

Out Of My Hands and Wake Up both have a line referring to 'see the pig dressed in his finest... something".. anyway, though it was weird to see the exact same lyric in two songs... other than that, I'm a big fan so far.

jsgksu wrote:Dream Girl, Smooth Rider, Stand Up (that beginning beat), Wake Up all great, I like Old Dirt Hill but not as much as those first 4, Out of my Hands was my least favorite but not bad by any means. I cant wait to hear them in their entirety, as well as the rest of the songs and the ones that didnt make the cut on tour. I agree with the Some Devil sound but I think its more upbeat and lively, SD was kind of calm, sorrowful at times. I dont know, I like what I hear.

My favorite music quote ever is by the one and only Page McConnel. In reference to a 15 minute jam, he says that if a jam had never gone on for the first 5 minutes, ten minute, 15 minutes, eventually once it hits that point at 17 18 20 minutes, you realize that if you hadn't endured for those first minutes, you would have never reached that point musically, that the music would have never have existed. I think this can be applied to bands as well. I think some people are bummed out because this new stuff doesn't sound like the "old Dave." Well, I think if the Dave Matthews Band hadn't have sticked around for those 13 or however many years they've been together, that they wouldn't have reached this point musically. Bands are always evolving, and lets face it, theyve been in the spotlight for a while, and they are all older men. I think theyre finally coming to the point where theyve found their sound, and if they hadnt stuck with it all these years they never would have come to this.

It may sound like im rambling, but what im trying to say is, all the stuff we refer to as classic Dave is just an evolution of sorts of their music to the point where they can finally say theyve found their sound.

Ladies and Gentelmen, i think we have on our hands (well not yet ) musically one of the greatest albums if not the greatest this band has ever made. How can I say that without hearing it? I think that because theyve endured so much, I can trust that this band of musical phenoms only gets better with time. :)
