For me it was Crush. I had always heard DMB on the radio and liked them but wasn't a huge fan until November 1998. I made a mix tape of random songs I liked from the radio and Crush was one of them. Then I listened to Crush over and over and was hooked! I quickly bought all their CDs, and on a whim decided to join the Warehouse in late Dec 98, having a gut feeling that I was going to be a huge fan!

For me it was some live version of Ants on VH1 back in probably 1995. I think it was some charity concert. I saw Carter's drumming, and was like "whoa...". Listened to them quite a bit during the rest of college (95-96) and been a fan ever since.
Funny thing is I've been playing guitar since 1990 (mostly Metallica, Van Halen, hard rock/metal on electric, etc...), but didn't learn my first DMB song until a few years ago. Now I strictly play acoustic and haven't picked up the electric in years...

That's a lot like my story. I quite disliked DMB at the time, due to the flooding of the airwaves with Satellite and Crash Into Me. But one day it was about a million degrees out I was sitting in a sweltering apartment of a friend of a friend's. We were very baked, and flipping through the channels. Storytellers was on, and Dave & Tim had just finished a song and Dave was starting the story about Crush. I thought it was quite simply the greatest love song ever. We watched the rest of it and Dave was so funny, I thought, "I've been all wrong about this Dave Matthews fellow." I bought BTCS the next day and the rest is history.billywestom wrote:For me, it was when I was flipping around the T.V. one day, and I accidentally stopped on VH1, and Storytellers was playing. Dave was singing the second chorus of "Crush" (yes, I remember exactly). That didn't get me hooked, but got me very interested.
A little over a year ago i decided i wanted to learn guitar, so a friend played crash for me.....i downloaded a few songs from Live at Luther College and bought the tab book. i guess what got me hooked was the fact that everytime i heard a song i hadnt yet heard i was blown away, every time........but i have to say that i recently watched the bolder CO. DVD and at the end of JTR when he is singing i sat in AWW
for about an hour.......and then his vocals in PNP at the LIve at forest aid show......AMAZING......and that's when i was seriously hooked.

back when i was in the 1st grade i bought under the table in dreaming. i had no understanding of music at all but i liked the lyrics to what would you say. then i thought dmb just disappeared like some bands. i started listening to led zeppelin and other stuff like that until i heard all along the watchtower by them i thought wow theyre still around. then in the 8th grade i heard. a song with so much emotion in everything and i was blown away. i actually got goosebumps. halloween at l@lc. then i heard rhyme and reason the next day and i was hooked.
if i were giving advice to someone on how to fly.....
id probably say throw yourself at the ground..and miss.

I remember hearing DMB on the radio alot after the release of Before THese Crowded Streets. My local radiostation would play Rapunzel and Crush alot, and I remember really enjoying the songs, but not being a huge DMB fan, cause I was kinda young. But over the summer I went to UNH for this camp, where we got to stay in the dorms, and my friend had gotten Busted Stuff a few days early somehow. He played it none stop, so the songs that got me hooked were actually Kit Kat Jam, and Grey Street. I still believe these are good songs, but had I heard other songs from other albums I probably would have gotten hooked faster.

the exact moment I got hooked was when I first listened to Two STep off of Crash and Tim came in with his lead guitar part. I thought it was the most amazing thing for being so simple, it fit so well. That's still the only version of that song I have on my computer, for some reason none of the live ones measure up for me.
