Just got mine w/ the encore disk. I've only listened to Minarets so far and it's SICK. The liner notes read:
DMB is a different animal. The band has shot forward due to grass-roots, word-of-mouth respect among true music fans, not by chart positions or videos or TV shows or gimmicky promotions. Carter Beauford, Stefan Lessard, Dave Matthews, LeRoi Moore, and Boyd Tinsley know they're different - and they like it that way.
"Where else do you find violin, acoustic guitar, sax, bass and drums in a rock band?" says Tinsley. "But our strength is our uniqueness and our musicianship." Adds Matthews: "We're all learning from each other."
I've had the pleasure of seeing the band many times in concert - that's where they built their reputation - but on equally solid ground is their large body of studio work. So it's a treat to see the key songs collected here, representing their strengths on and off the stage.
While they've had hits by industry standards, they've not been your typical industry band. The song "Crash Into Me" became a major, modern-rock smash, defying some experts who said it wouldn't make it. Most impressively, there's no such thing as a cookie-cutter DMB tune. They don't adapt to trends. They set their own trends, which has been true from the break-through disc Under The Table And Dreaming to the groundbreaking Stand Up, a 2005 album that gave the group an invigorating new stance and tapped into a rhythmic element suggesting an even more promising future.
When you hear a DMB song on the radio, you instantly know it's them. And you quickly realize that they're always exploring fresh ideas. Theirs is a melting pot of the spirit as much as of music. Perhaps no existing group of musicians listens to each other more closely than DMB does, whether it's in a darkened studio or at Giants Stadium. Their chemistry seems effortless, as they switch from rock to funk, jazz, and world music in the blink of a chord change. It may look easy, but there's a vision behind everything they do and that's been there from the start.
The journey has made them perhaps unlikely rock starts, but who's keeping score? They've done it without compromising and they've further used their international fame to support positive causes from Farm Aid to the prevention of global warming. They've kept it real throughout.
At the very essence of DMB is a devotion to the groove and to each other. "Early on we became a brotherhood, a family," Matthews says, "and we've had a blessed career together." Bassist Stefan Lessard says, "DMB is expecting a rejuvenation both on stage and in the studio. This may be The Best Of What's Around but for us, the best is yet to come."
So, please crash into these discs of essential DMB tracks and discover - once again or for the first time - why they've become such a beloved, inspiring force.

Wow! I was there for that Warehouse, and I don't know if it's studio magic or what, but his voice sounds better than I've ever heard it. I don't remember him sounding so damn good. The horns are awesome, too. I just am really in love with this song right now and it makes me happy to have a kick-ass live version that I was at.
Oh yeah, the rest of the live stuff is pretty good too.

IMO it's a good best of compilation and I think it'll get a lot of folks into DMB who've not known that much about them.littlefriend420 wrote:Wow! Yeah, I agree. I think it's cool that songs like WAYG and Satellite aren't on there and BOWA, Rapunzel, and Hunger are. Casual listeners don't really know those songs as much. And the live stuff is great. The sound quality is amazing.

The second disc is awesome. Just looking at the track list can make you think it'll be your typical live versions you've heard a billion times, but those tracks were GOOD. And I agree with you on Warehouse, that track especially is smokin. And I was kinda caught off-guard by the Vasi Mahasahellallamehella (sorrylittlefriend420 wrote: And the live stuff is great.
