im going to buy it tonight. so far i have just heard clips. i dunno.

wow.
perceptions be damned and such. maybe it isnt a good album in the traditional "dave matthews band album" sense of the word, but i think this this if fantastic. there are some probs with the production i think...overdid it on a few voices...but i love this.
and don't give me any shit about anything, i've been a fan for like 12 years.
this album is gonna shake things up a lot. they are gonna lose more fans like they did in 2001, but this album doesn't suck like everyday did, so i'm a happy camper omg.
for the last few years i've just assumed the band peaked in the late 90's and that was that. this definitely shows a whole other life span to them. we haven't seen their best yet, no way.

this album kicks the ass of uttad and crash, if you look at it as an album and not just a collection of songs. uttad and crash had amazing songs, most of my favorites are from that era...but as far as an album being a collective work...i love this thing.
this is a continuation of BTCS where the band started to discover that an album is not just a collection of studio recordings of live songs (uttad, crash, busted stuff).
i really honestly think that this is the first great album they have released, aside from BTCS.
god i love it.

After listenign to it in the car for awhile I get a different vibe from it. A better vibe than listening to clips from the website. It's like I can actually put the songs to use now.
The sad thing is I cant get Carter's vocals out of my head from "Old Dirt Hill".
I thought I was the only one. Throughout all the forums and whatnot, I don't remember seeing much complaint about it. I like ODH quite a bit, but the first time I heard Carter's singing I thought, "why the fuck is NSync on my DMB album?!!?!"

I like your points Jay. This is a good album as far as the concept of an entire body of work goes. It's funny how one's opinion can change like that huh? One thing that I like about the album is how Dave reprises lines from Wake Up in OMHFN, it fits soooo well.

i was just thinking that.
i have Out Of My Hands on repeat right now heh.
i love how the songs share common lyrics.
i'm with you on Old Dirt Hill. i love the song, but i nearly crapped myself when i heard carter sing.
but yeah. out of my hands still on repeat.
i am really loving this. i did NOT see the live show from roseland...im sure it will be up for d/l tomorrow, but i hear the songs sound great live, especially Die Trying.

winamp plays AAC natively - you don't need a plugin. it's a standard, every good media player can play them, not just itunes.
edit: where'd you find the webcast?

Day three of getting chills from the American Baby Intro...I love how the track blends the opening piano into a mix of gunfire and then into Carter's drumming with planes flying through as it busts into an all out jam. Listen to this and tell me we lost DMB. I mean wow....just....wow.
I'd have to agree about looking at this as an album rather than a collection of songs (i.e. Everyday or Busted Stuff). Since BTCS, this is the first album, from start to finish, that really plays like one SOLID piece of work. I could put this in my CD player and just let it repeat over and over. ED and BS always had me hitting the skip track button every so often or depending on the mood.
Sure it's not the acoustic/eclectic roots of the early albums but keep an open mind and you'll discover a quality piece of music. Not to mention from what I've hard so far at Jazzfest these songs rock HARD live.
It's DMB baby!

If you want to be the popular one at a party, here's a good thing to do: Go up to some people who are talking and laughing and say, "Well, technically that's illegal." It might fit in with what somebody just said. And even if it doesn't, so what, I hate this stupid party.

I waited for the longest time, and now it's finally here.
And I LOVE it. I must admit, I was nervous, but now I'm alleviated beyond belief.
I think this album is an amazing new path for them. Every album has been a new path for them, from R2T to Stand Up. I won't be one to say that different is bad, either. If they kept the sound that they had in the beginning, nothing would be exciting and new. So to crucify DMB for trying something new would be rediculous.
I will admit that this album had more hip-hop roots in it than any other, I will also say that it's not a bad thing. Just because they use some roots in their music that MAY resemble popular music today, does not mean that they suck. They just tried something new and creative, and it came out well.
I don't think album was a bad idea. It is wonderfully written and performed. Sure the production could use a bit less..... PRODUCING..... the album, overall, is great. DMB fans need to realize that while Stand Up could never be another Crash or UTTAD, there will never be another Stand Up. I think fans are trying to relate everything back to the golden days. That was a long time ago, and fans are tending to expect something that will probably never happen again.
Some fans just need to open their minds.
