Have you ever seen the video of the Ball State sports announcer kid? Boom goes the dynamite...?
There's one part where he apathetically says, "oh no" in the lamest tone ever during a sports highlight.
Had to be there.

Fans attending DMB shows this summer will be the first to hear the latest material from Dave Matthews Band as the band debuts songs from their forthcoming record! DMB is currently in the studio with Rob Cavallo (Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Alanis Morrisette) working on the yet-to-be-titled album. Guitarist and long time friend Tim Reynolds is playing on the album, marking his first recording with DMB since 1998’s Before These Crowded Streets.

I saw that interview with him and was kind of impressed, he had some good things to say. I love Rob as a producer and all his stuff has sounded really good, but it is strange that the band, once again, is going for someone that does not have experience with their kind of music. All in all I'm excited though, and am willing to bet he will do the band justice. He's the kind of producer that will not be afraid to tell them what he thinks and drive them to their full potential, something that I think DMB needs. All the theories about why lillywhite was dropped and the sessions were abandoned seem to hint that Lillywhite drove the band too far because he wanted things perfect, and they got fed up with it. But, it still shows because those sessions are great and better in a lot of ways compared to Busted Stuff... Hopfully Rob will be the kind of guy to push them to thier full potential and make them put something out that really reflects what they are capable of.

Rolling Stone:
"In addition to working with celebrity producers like Scott Storch and JR Rotem, Paris Hilton also collaborated with longtime Green Day producer Rob Cavallo on several songs for the record, but according to Paris none of those tracks made the record. “Rob was really great, we did like six songs together. They were all rock and I didn’t use any of them in my album, I wanted to do something different.” Anyway, you never know, record #2 could be the “rock album”. “Maybe,” she admitted, “I kept the songs, I love them.” But is rock ready?--RS

One good thing about Cavallo is that he has no song writing credits. Whatever is written during these sessions will be the bands own ideas unlike Everyday and Stand Up which were incredibly influenced by Ballard and Batson since they were song writers and got co-writing credits on a lot of songs. Who knows if that leads to a good album, but at least there will be no influence from outsiders during the song writing process.

I thought about that too. On just about every song on the last two albums (not counting BS) the songwriting credits were shared with the producer. So hopefully Dave can be free this time to do his thing, and put something nice together with the band. I'm not letting myself get my hopes up, though.
