ports 6881-6889 are used by bit torrent - you might want to route those to your computer through your firewall. Did it give an error?

no, it just never connected...but it did download the file shells...

or does that part come from the .torrent file?

comes from the torrent file.

hrm that it never connected - but i know it works because other people are downloading from me

Yep, it sure works for me. This is only the third show I've downloaded from BT and I'm glad I'm starting too. Direct Connect is co much slower than this it isn't even funny. Thanks for sharing Trippn!!! I'll be sure to leave my window open all day.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was because nobody was downloading it before, but a lot of people are now. I'm around 12 down and 24 up, thats kinda weird. I guess a lot more people are just starting, I started last night and restarted this afternoon and have about 25% so far.

i have a question....i have literally 30 gigs of DMB SHNS on my comp....how do i get them up on to bit torrent for you guys?

Sorry guys, looks like something was wrong with my BT and i was only u/l'ing 4 or 5kb when before i was at 40 even. restarting right now, it should be good after.

EDIT: I guess not, it's still doing it, I guess everyone else is taking the brunt of the upload. Let me know what kind of d/l & u/l speeds you guys are getting.

Well, you can't (well you can but you shouldn't) BT all of that. But you can offer one show at a time. you have to use a program called "completedir" to make the torrent file. You can get completedir here. You can either use the STG tracker (it's kinda hard to get working if you don't know what you're doing) or you can use mine if you want. If anyone wants to use mine, just pm me and i'll give you the announce url and stuff and make sure to leave it up.

alright I defintly have some shows I would like to host, and I am currently downloading completedir...is there a website you can point me to, to help me with hosting shows. I am pretty good at figuring sutff out, I figured out to make my own FTP server, so I hope I can figure out Bit torrent hosting.

btw i am getting 10 down and 0 up....the 0 up is bothering me, because i think my router is screwing with this thing. i'll play around with my ports and see what happens.

Yes, that sounds like a router problem. When I first started using BT i was getting horrible d/l speeds and horrible u/l speeds. I finally read the faq and it gave those ports, as soon as I routed those to my computer, I started getting 200 kb/s at least. BT is designed so that your download is proportional to your upload; if you're not helping others, you don't get much.

Okay, here's a general rundown on BT'ing files, I'm going to use a hypothetical situation:

Let's say I want to share a show in a folder called dmb06-17-03.shnf. I would place that folder inside another folder (it doesn't matter what it's called, anything will work - just make sure that dmb06-17-03.shnf is the only folder/file in the new folder - i'll call it dmbshare). I run completedir, select the "dmbshare" folder (not "dmb06-17-03.shnf"), then I type the announce URL for the Bit Torrent tracker. You have to have a tracker that runs 24/7 on a server. You can use either Sharingthegroove.com's or mine. If you wanna use mine, just PM me and i'll give you the announce url. Leave the piece size (i think that's what it's called) at whatever it is (2**18 i think). Then just give out the .torrent file completedir generates (it's in "dmbshare" now), and then open the torrent file yourself, point it to "dmb06-17-03.shnf" and it should say "checking existing file" - once its done you will be "seeding" the show and sending it out to all those who download the .torrent file and run it. As more people download, it shares the upload among all the downloaders so the more people the faster it gets.
