one of my friends mom acts more like that kind of mom... my mom acts like a psychotic egomaniac.

Thats not a highly unusual conclusion considering you're 15. Give it a few years.

he is not over-reacting from what I know about it...regardless...I think things just might work out down the road...maybe you (shane) are being used to change your mom for the better...show her unconditional love...that is the humble admirable thing to do...it will pay off

I have no problem playing in front of my family but I've never been able to sing in front of my mom or dad. I like to sing with friends but for some reason i just can't do it.

i actually can't sing in front of anyone. it's very strange, because i was in choirs in high school, and had leads in theatre a lot. i can sing to a packed auditorium, but there is something unnerving about doing it on the couch in my dorm.

maybe it's because on the stage, i am "supposed" to be doing it, and at home i am not really there for a reason.....it's puzzling.

2 things

1.... I hate playing in front of people who don't know guitar because they seem to not really appreciate what i am doing and I just feel like a novelty. Playing guitar is definately not a first date thing for me = )

2.... I am with you on the Mom thing Shane. I think we may have had very similar situations but one of the best things in my life is my ex-girlfreinds family, they treat me like a son and I can hang out there whenever I want and she got a call on mothers day, a real depressing time for me when my mom calls and gets mad at me for not calling her when she lived 300 feet away from me and never talked to me for 6 months.... anyway.... just wanted to give you and everyone else some encouragement that your not the only one in that situation.

oh and I am still waiting for my graduation present that is in the mail ( I didn't graduate from anything this year)

I feel the same way, they assume just cuz one of their close friends can play it, it must be easy so I get no appreciation. The one friend that sings to all the songs Ive wrote is the one exception I guess but mostly because he tries to play guitar but cant so he knows how hard it is. Im just asking for a pat on the back and a "good job man, sounds good" how hard is that?

family playing

Unread post by slapman24 » Sun May 18, 2003 4:55 pm

No one else in my family is musical, although they all love hearing me play. My grandmother especially did. She passed away a couple weeks ago but I was able to play her a song as she slept her last hours, I've since vowed to never play that song again.
