i dunno how they came up with the summer '04 songs. but those were damn good. i'm not too worried about them going downhill too much.

i voted "let dave do the songs first" because he did that for some devil, and that is a might-fine album.

again, don't forget that in the past 2 years dave/DMB has come out with prob about 10-15 new, VERY good songs. just because some of SU is a bit off....you get it

examples: Hello Again, Joy Ride, Gravedigger, So Damn Lucky, Sugar Will

While each of the other members bring their own unique flavor to the table that makes the Dave Matthews Band what it is, I truly believe that Dave Matthews is the heart and soul of the band, both lyrically and musically. The band being called the Dave Matthews Band was probably a subconscious recognition of that. Creed wasn't called the Scott Stapp Band for a good reason. Without Dave the rest of the guys probably would've had relatively mediocre careers in music, if any. Dave was destined for greatness.

What they don't need is more personalities in on the creation of the music. An occasional guest might be cool, but too many cooks spoil the broth. Let the producers produce and leave the art to the artists.
But Boyd's solo album was sooo gooooooood.

again why i think stand up didnt perform.

and whoever was saying they were getting old or whatever, thats guff. Good music lasts forever. They--if not more so Dave Matthews-- has/have the ability to make good music. That's not something that leaves you because you've been playing for awhile. Hell, no one would go see The Rolling Stones if that was the case.

And that goes for new stuff. Like I said, it was one bad album that was experimental in many ways (er... mark batson... um... rap producer and produced for like gwen stefani???!?!?), I don't remember where I said that, but it was in similar thread.

Like I said, good music lasts forever and those who have the ability to make it do too. If it didn't, kids 10-12 years old wouldn't know who The Beatles are. (And yes they do know who they are. I have younger siblings and their friends listen to the beatles)

Other than getting a different producer, all of those other options are just token changes really and aren't going to change the vibe, nor truly effect the creation of new music in my opinion.

With this new album, I really think it's a joke on us as they made the damn thing in two weeks with a hip hop producer and the band has admitted it's a mix of riffs and hooks that they came up with on the fly and then Dave would come back the next day with lyrics for so that being said it's been discussed before on this board, I'd like to see a guy like Lanois come in and do something like BCTS but more lush, grown up and possibly Peter Gabriel-esque. If DMB keeps performing there's no doubt in my mind the best is yet to come.

i would even be for them taking a break, and putting a large amount of time into the creation of a new album. stand up was so half assed and you can tell. no matter how they say it was so organic and everything just came out. thats basically saying we took the first thing we had layed it down and moved on. i dont know what it would take to get music they use to make, but im just grateful we have the music they have already given us. maybe they wont ever make that music again, more than likely they dont want to, they want to do something different, cant really blame them.

thats true. especially dave. Can you imagine how many times he's played/sung songs like Song That Jane Likes and Ants through-out the years? i would probably get a little tired of it too.

edit: or any other old old song before the band formed that they still play. STJL was first one that came to mind
