I like the way Taylors sound and feel. I just hate the electronics. Well at least the ES blue. Damn thing picks up radio. I have to call guitar center and complain.
And anyone who thinks about going to Guitar Center to look at acoustics, think again. Their selection sucks ass.
Maybe yours does...
haha ya the one in my area kicks ass... sorry yours sucks...
It's in Rockville,MD. And Their electric selection is amazing. There is an extremely high ceiling and there are electrics from wall to wall up to the ceiling in a room the size of a school gym. But the acoustic room is mostly crappy guitars. Then when you go to the back where the Taylors and Martins are all they have is the 3000 dollar ones and the 800 dollar ones. I knew exactly what I wanted and I had a list of like 40 guitars and they didnt have a single one.
I know price doesnt make the guitar but those ones they had werent too good.

He doesn't have a problem with using Martins. I think he probably believes that the 914 cuts through better when he is playing with the band. I prefer the Martin, but that's me. And to those of you who actually thought he would use a T5, why did you think that? Why would he switch to the T5 now? He's been using the 914 on tour forever. Why would he change?

a) Because he used a Chet Atkins SST for many many years and most believe that it was the best guitar he's ever used in terms of working with the band's sound.
b) Because it's a brand-new guitar that came out last week? How could he have possibly used the T5 before it was invented...
c) Combining a and b, it's a Taylor version of the best guitar he ever used (in my and many others' humble opinions). it's a fairly easy logical conclusion (before this magazine came out)
and i do think he has expressly gone out of his way in the past 4 or 5 years to make sure he uses only Taylors in public. As said in this magazine, he had a choice between the T5, a guitar he'd never used and not used on the album and most likely will never use in concert, and a Martin. It quotes Monk as saying that "All our Taylors were en route to Australia." First of all, Dave has a lot more guitars than just Taylors. Second of all, if that is true, then he would have a Martin DM3MD on-hand, his SIGNATURE guitar. WHY such an aversion to using it in public or in a music video when it's a guitar that HE HIMSELF designed and is clearly his favorite guitar in terms of sound and looks (since he uses it almost exclusively as his 6-stringer in the studio). the only time he ever uses it in public is dave and tim, when his 914 would sound like horseshit (which he knows very well). the only thing that i can deduce from that is bob taylor. whateva

Yup I go to that one also. Not the best selection at all. That store is good for other stuff though. I get a lot of DJing stuff there.

If YOU had a DM3MD would YOU take outside? My Martin HD-35 has never felt the humid Atlanta air and by the grace of God never will.
Maybe he has no problem abusing a Taylor....you know, like a cheap whore but keep the wife home safe.
I don't know what the fuck I'm saying - I love my Martin and would choose her over a Taylor anyday. She just sings so sweet...

Humidity won't ruin a guitar unless its a steam sauna.

I was mostly kidding though my first cheap-o guitar definately fell victim to what I believe was countless trips outside. Overheating can wreck some havok *expensive* glues and laminates.
Mostly, I was just trying to egg this into a Martin v. Taylor thread again.

I'd have to go with Martin, just because I hate everything Taylor stands for. They are the evil corporation of the acoustic guitar world.

I'm getting a Larrivee in a week or two. Hands-down greatest investment ever. Much better than Taylor for about half the price.

How is tayor the evil corp. of the acoustic guitar world? I'm certainly not a taylor advocate, but I don't think they are anymore evil than Martin as far as acoustic guitar corps go. I know Martin has moved production of some of its lower level models to Mexico. I want to say the only thing Taylor has made in Mexico are its cases (I could be wrong though). I do think Taylors are hugely overpriced but consumers have created the demand. If people stopped buying them they'd sell cheaper. I also think Martins are a little overpriced, not nearly as much as Taylor though.

I think (but I am not sure) Dave used the DM3MD for the Dave & Friends Tour. And he also recently supported Martin by allowing them to feature his lyrics in a recent Martin Guitar ad in "Guitar World Acoustic" magazine.
The common theory is that Dave uses the Taylor with the band because it can be heard more clearly, and he uses the Martin with Tim because it has a warmer more intimate sound. If this theory is correct why does he use the Taylor at solo gigs like FarmAid and Benyroo(sp?) Hall? Who knows?
