hey katie, I kind of hear what you're saying. They're not the same song but I do think there are similarities. I haven't heard them enough to know exactly but i had american baby stuck in my head after hearing it a couple of times and I somehow switched it to Sugar Will. WEIRD. Just thought I'd let you know you're not crazy.

Sugar Will is easily, in my opinion, the best new song from the last tour. I don't equate a good Dave song with him screaming, and not sounding particularly too good while doing it, a chorus line. While this may be energizing and fun at a concert, when you take away these parts, ie dave screaming Hello Again, whats left may not be a good enough foundation for a studio song. This is not to say that the band hasn't pulled this off before, ie Halloween, but what makes this particular song successful on the album is the background musical sustenance, not so much the core of the song. However, a song like sugar will, which many of you don't seem to like, is musically more interesting. Studio songs should serve as the foundation upon which great Live songs are created. When they take away the loudness of the songs, as will certainly happen in a studio album, the songs still need to be able to stay afloat on their musical merit. They may need to solidify the lyrics, but they have done this in the past (Raven, SayGoodbye, etc). Many of the Band's album songs don't "work" particularly well in concert, and serve as a bathroom break for some of you, but they are on the albums for their merit as good songs, not simply good live songs. But to each his/her own, as people will like what they will. I just personally hope that there will be album songs like: I'll Back You Up, Let you Down, Proudest Monkey, #34, etc. I would hate not having Proudest Monkey as a album closer on Crash were the band to have discarded the song because it was boring in concert. This message in no way implies that great album songs can't originate from live songs, as practically all of UTTAD and Crash were written well before the band ever set foot in the studio. It just so happens that all of these songs were great songs, musically.
Yea not at all. I'm really pissed to hear SW isn't on the new album. It was one of my favorites from the summer...such a unique song for DMB. Hopefully it's on there and they just changed the name or something.I love sugar will a lot, but no, they don't sound at all similar. I can play both SW and AB and neither are even musically similar
