one thing that makes a band great, in my mind, is how good they sounds live. DMB sounds better live than in a studio, IMO. Pearl jam is ok live, but I think Vedder sounds better after he's been run through a synthesizer. Pearl Jam doesn't have enough variation in live shows that I've heard to make them a better live act than DMB. I'm not saying that DMB is the bext live band ever. I think the Grateful Dead (who i've seen live) was better, and a number of the other jam band acts out there (Widespread Panic, Moe, String Chees Incident) are all damn good live acts.

Another thing to keep in mind is the your expectation of the show. If you go into the show expecting this immaculate show and DMB delivers a really good show a person might feel disappointed. If expectations are greater than results, even if the results are really good. ASimilar to a person with a 4.0 gpa getting a B+ which they would be disappointed but a person with a 2.0 gpa might be elated with that B+. DMB I would say on average has better live shows than most other bands. Of course there are going to be some shows were maybe their not feeling it as much as other shows. I have seen a lot of bands live that didn't deliver like the Ramones, Blink 182, Bob Dylan(although I was very appreciative just to see a living legend live and he is getting up there in age. I have yet to go to a DMB show that I didn't love(5).

And let me guess ...311 is?
They are my favorite. I have never been to a concert that had a stronger connection with the fans than the July 19th 311 show this summer. But its a special case with me and my friends. Kinda hard to explain.

OK, I'm gonna try not to flip out right now. The reason its so special is because Nick Hexum, the lead singer of 311, dedicated my friends and my favorite song to my best friend who killed himself on April 5, 2004. He said ""This is another dedication to a fan and lost friend. In loving memory of Bob Long, this one's called Lose"

That wasn't hard to explain. Although I'm sorry about your friend...It may have been amazing for you, although just because you had an amazing experience thanks to them, doesn't mean you can denounce any other band and say other bands and other fans didn't have stronger or more widely felt connections.

I love Dmb live, but the only thing that bothers me is that they have so many awesome songs, I'm always stressing to hear certains ones, and I want some songs to end so I can hear whats next, it kills the mood SOMETIMES, but usually they rule
