Even if he had written a bunch of them before the band, the full band fine tunes them a LOT. Listen to the difference between D&T versions and full band versions. Carter can completely change the feel of any song that they play. I'm sure the other 4 creative minds of the band had a lot of "Put this part here" and "Let's stretch this part out" type of input into the songs that he already had written.

I heard this too, but I forget where...

I hope this album leans the same direction they were going with BTCS. That is by far my favorite album.
