That is really not saying much though, I think we need to raise our standards just a bit.GSR wrote:I think they're fine. Much better than anything on Stand Up.
The song's a good length, too. Much more depth and dynamics.

None of the lyrics make me cringe, which is an improvement in itself.
Maybe on paper they appear a bit simplistic, but I like the way they're delivered in the song.
Another thing I'm noticing is that this song doesn't seem rushed. In places where i think, "Oh, they're gonna jump right into the next part," they actually take their time, and the song seems to flow really well, and it feels bigger and more cohesive than a lot of the stand up material. The hook feels like a single, but at least it's not a 3 minute piece of crap.

I hear that, I think some of the lines lack some imagination though. Especially the one about the kid walking 10 miles to school, while anothers dropping out. I'm no lyricist, but there has got to be a better way to say that, its almost too much to the point. Either way, it isn't Dreamgirl.GSR wrote:None of the lyrics make me cringe, which is an improvement in itself.Maybe on paper they appear a bit simplistic, but I like the way they're delivered in the song.

I agree with you about the music. I really like the sound of the verses with Tim adding little pieces in the background and Boyd's solo fits perfectly. The chorus still is sounding pretty cheesy and overproduced to me and I think Tim's solo could have been a lot better, it really doesn't go anywhere.
I think Tim being mixed louder than Dave has a bit to do with the overproduction. The electric guitar definitely makes it shiny.
And as for the kid and school thing, the song is based around those contrasting real world images. This isn't an ethereal song like the Dreaming Tree.
Give it a listen with headphones, Tim's background work and Stefan stand out a lot more, in particular.

I don't dislike it. Listened to it a couple of times (through youtube).
But it sounds so poppy, Tims solo sounds like taken from the Jonas Brothers. Like someone said, too radio friendly.
Carter is very cool on this song though, both in drums and back vocals.
Thank god they didn't end the song with the chorus.
Is kanter coming back to tab this album? =)

I've got to say, I actually like this song. Just got a chance to download and listen to it.
I don't think it's the greatest thing they've ever put out, but I think this is at least a good sign they've put some real effort into the album. As well, this song sounds like it would have some amazing potential live.

Just gave it a closer listen with headphones... made a pretty big difference actually. I still find the chorus too disney to get into, but the actual music in the verses and the bridge stand out a lot more and sound much better to me. And I like boyd's solo much more too.

There is a lot of cheese. It feels like Dave is trying so hard to write like he did 15 years ago, and it ends up just sounding forced
Carter destroys though, good to hear him and not what sounds like a drum track (a la Stand Up). Tim is great, too

Not really digging the bridge, but I like the rest of it. If the rest of the album is as good as this I'll be happy. It'll at least be on par with Everyday, which isn't that bad, and an obvious improvement from SU.
Sweet that LT15 is free with the pre-order. That was a great fucking show.
